Estimator Reports to: CEO Classification: Full-Time, ExemptCompensation: $75,000 – $125,000 / yearJob SummaryThe Estimator is a dedicated office-based professional responsible for bidding plan sets for new construction and public/municipal projects. This is a purely in-office estimating role - there is no outside sales or road-based client development component. The Estimator serves as an internal resource and subject-matter expert, collaborating closely with the outside estimating team to support takeoffs, review bids, and ensure accuracy and competitiveness across all active proposals. Duties and ResponsibilitiesNew Construction & Public Bid EstimatingRead, interpret, and perform detailed takeoffs from full plan sets for new construction roofing projectsPrepare accurate, competitive bids for public/municipal and general contractor solicitations, including prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements where applicableReview project specifications, bid documents, addenda, and scope clarifications; incorporate all relevant requirements into estimatesApply established labor, material, and subcontractor markups for overhead and profit; compute cost factors for planning and bid preparationPrepare and submit complete proposal packages on or before required due datesQualify and prepare change order estimates for approvalOrganize product information, shop drawings, and samples for submittal packages as required Team Support & CollaborationAssist outside estimators with takeoffs, quantity surveys, and bid reviews as neededServe as an in-office resource for technical questions related to materials, systems, and scope interpretationParticipate in pre-bid strategy discussions and internal scope review meetingsReview and provide feedback on bids prepared by other estimators prior to submissionCommunicate clearly with the operations team during pre-job handoffs, transferring detailed project knowledge Technical & AdministrativeMaintain up-to-date knowledge of roofing design requirements, building codes, and material systems offered by the companyIdentify material cost trends and provide recommendations to management for cost reduction and process improvementEngage in post-job cost analysis - comparing estimated vs. actual costs and providing improvement recommendations for future estimatesMaintain accurate, complete, and organized project files and bid logsFollow up on outstanding estimates as required or directedPrepare purchase order requests and assist in procurement of materials and equipment as needed Required Skills & CompetenciesTechnical KnowledgeExtensive knowledge of commercial roofing systems, materials, and construction methodsDemonstrated ability to perform accurate takeoffs from full architectural and structural plan setsUnderstanding of new construction sequencing and general contractor bid environmentsFamiliarity with public bid processes, prevailing wage requirements, and municipal project protocolsUnderstanding of local building codes and design requirementsFamiliarity with roofing manufacturer systems, warranties, and submittal requirements Estimating & Analytical SkillsProven ability to prepare accurate, detailed cost estimates independently and at volumeStrong command of estimating software; proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)Ability to analyze completed project data and apply lessons learned to future bidsBudget consciousness - understands implications of change orders and production variances on job profitability Communication & ProfessionalismStrong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and general contractorsEnglish fluency - verbal and writtenCapable of clearly explaining technical scope and pricing details to both technical and non-technical audiencesHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple active bids simultaneously in a fast-paced office environment Character & CultureTeam-oriented; willing to collaborate and operate in accordance with the company's Core ValuesSelf-motivated with a strong orientation toward accuracy, efficiency, and profitabilityCommitted to continuous professional and technical development Education & ExperienceRequiredMinimum 3 years of commercial roofing estimating experience, with demonstrated focus on new construction and/or public bid projectsProven ability to perform takeoffs from full plan sets independentlyHigh school diploma or equivalent PreferredExperience with industry estimating platformsFamiliarity with local, regional, and state public bid requirements and processesManufacturer certifications (GAF, Carlisle, Firestone, or equivalent)Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field Physical RequirementsThese physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.Extended periods of desk work including computer use, blueprint review, and typingAbility to sit and focus for prolonged periods in an office environmentMust be able to lift up to 15 pounds at timesOccasional site visits may be required; ability to access rooftops and navigate construction sites safely
