Job Summary
Jack’s Roofing, now part of Wagner Roofing Company, is seeking a skilled and dependable Roofing Helper with 2+ years of roofing experience to join our team. The Roofing Helper will assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of roofing systems on residential, commercial, and industrial projects, with a focus on quality, safety, and teamwork.
This role requires an understanding of roofing processes, the ability to work independently on assigned tasks, and a commitment to completing work accurately and efficiently. The Roofing Helper supports the mechanic by preparing materials, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining quality standards, while also mentoring less-experienced crew members and following all safety requirements.
Role and Responsibilities
- Support Roofing Mechanic in Installation and Repairs:
- Assist the Roofing Mechanic in the removal and installation of various roofing systems, including shingles, tiles, metal, and specialty materials.
- Understand the steps and processes involved in roofing installations and repairs to anticipate the mechanic’s needs.
- Ensure proper alignment and placement of materials, verifying that installations meet company and industry standards.
- Identify and address potential issues during installation, reporting concerns to the mechanic or foreman as needed.
- Autonomous Task Management:
- Work independently on assigned tasks, such as preparing roof surfaces, laying underlayment, or securing materials.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on roofing systems with minimal supervision.
- Take the initiative to organize tools, materials, and equipment to streamline project workflows.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
- Set up and tear down safety equipment, such as fall protection systems, scaffolding, and ladders, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Monitor the worksite for safety hazards and report them promptly.
- Complete required safety training such as fall protection or OSHA.
- Material and Equipment Management:
- Prepare and stage materials for the Roofing Mechanic to ensure efficient workflow.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and ready for use.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or material shortages to the supervisor.
- Quality Assurance:
- Assist in inspecting completed work to ensure it meets company quality standards and project specifications.
- Provide feedback to the mechanic or lead on any issues that may affect the durability or appearance of the roof.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively and effectively with your assigned Roofing Mechanic or lead and other team members to meet project deadlines, taking direction from the site leads.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- 2+ years of roofing or construction experience.
- Strong understanding of roofing processes and materials.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative on assigned tasks.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools for roofing projects.
- Comfort getting on ladders, working at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift and handle at least 50 lbs.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Expertise in specialty roofing systems (e.g., sheet metal, slate, or tile).
- OSHA10 certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification. Fall Protection certification
