ROWING COORDINATOR DUTIESGeneral description of job:Manages recreational rowing program. Works closely with, andreports to, Recreation Department and Central Connecticut Rowing (CCR) President.Prerequisites:Must have significant sweep rowing experienceMust have strong organizational skillsExamples of duties:1. Develops programs and schedules for rowing classes, both on-waterand on-land2. Personally attends most rowing classes to oversee programsand maintain close contact with coaches, assistant coaches,coxswains and launch drivers ("staff")3. Prepares estimated budgets for programs, including pricingand class size4. Develops job descriptions for staff5. Publicizes staff openings, reviews candidates and makesrecommendations to Recreation Department for hire; ensureapplicants complete employment paperwork6. Develop and implement systems to ensure that staff aretrained in boathouse procedures, safety and class protocols7. Work with staff to maintain a positive and collaborativeatmosphere8. Supervise staff9. Work with CCR Boathouse Manager to ensure that rowingequipment and boathouse facility (shells, oars, trainingequipment) are in good working order and appropriate forprogram needs10. Work with CCR Race Coordinator to ensure that rowingcompetition opportunities are offered to rowers and carriedout safely11. Work with High School Staff to coordinate use of equipmentand boathouse facility during class sessions andcompetitions12. Schedule staff weekly and submit weekly or biweekly payrollin a timely manner to Recreation Dept13. Develop and implement systems to communicate with staffand rowers about weather, cancellations, new offerings,safety concerns and similar items14. Build positive, collaborative relationships with program staff,and participants15. Coordinate with CCR President to schedule boathousecleanup/organization/equipment work days16. Communicate schedule of rowing program with High Schoolcoach and request use of High School Equipment17. Manage daily problems with staff, rowers, scheduling issues,equipment breakdowns18. Organize the promotion (postings, local papers, posters andsigns), staffing, scheduling and setup of Learn to Row Day,including paid staff as well as 20+ volunteers19. Direct prospective participants to Recreation Department forregistration20. Support/promote the rowing program at city events, suchthe Memorial Day parade, and booths at other city eventswith volunteers This is a stipend based position, paid at the end of the rowing season.
