Safety Coordinator

C.W. Matthews is looking for a Safety Coordinator to join our Coastal Division and help lead our commitment to keeping our people safe, our projects compliant, and our crews equipped to perform at their best. This is a hands-on safety role for someone who enjoys being in the field, building relationships with operations teams, identifying potential hazards, and helping supervisors and employees find practical solutions. The ideal candidate will bring construction safety experience and the confidence to work directly with field personnel across active jobsites.

What You''ll Do

• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and observations.
• Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and project teams to identify and correct potential hazards.
• Help ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and applicable safety requirements.
• Assist with safety orientations, toolbox talks, and employee training.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and assist with corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, inspections, and records.
• Partner with project leadership to develop and implement effective safety plans.
• Monitor jobsite conditions and provide guidance on safe work practices.
• Help promote a strong safety culture where employees feel comfortable speaking up about safety concerns.
• Support ongoing safety initiatives, audits, and compliance efforts across the Coastal Division.
• Travel between active project sites as needed.

What We''re Looking For

We''re interested in candidates who have a strong foundation in construction safety and are ready to take the next step in their career.

Ideal qualifications include either:

• 2-5 years of construction safety experience, OR
• A 4-year degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field, along with at least 1 year of practical, real-world safety experience.

Additional experience in heavy civil construction, bridge construction, roadway, asphalt, utilities, sitework, or heavy highway construction is preferred, but it is not required. Candidates with safety experience in vertical construction, commercial construction, industrial construction, or other construction environments are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

• Construction safety experience or relevant 4-year degree as outlined above.
• OSHA knowledge and understanding of construction safety practices.
• Ability to work effectively in active construction environments.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to travel between jobsites.
• Valid driver''s license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred:

• Heavy civil, roadway, asphalt, utility, sitework, or heavy highway experience.
• OSHA 30 or other relevant safety certifications.
• Experience conducting jobsite inspections, training, and incident investigations.
• Familiarity with DOT-related construction safety requirements
• Bilingual is a plus!
