Job Description

Qualifications:
Knowledge & Competencies (Skills & Abilities):
Experience in fire safety and risk identification. Environmental experience, highly preferred. Associates degree in industrial safety/health/hygiene and/or a minimum of (2-3) years of professional plant level experience in the planning, development, and implementation of Health & Safety management systems and compliance programs. Professional safety certifications highly desirable. Significant problem solving situations involve investigation and resolution of employee complaints, root cause analysis of incidents, and recommendations for improvement. Must have excellent organizational and cross functional skills, as well as oral and written communication skills. High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required. Must be self-motivated, and be able to make independent, informed and prioritized decisions. Must be able to work in both individual and team industrial work settings with minimal supervision. Maintaining strict confidentiality in all matters is paramount to this position due to the nature of employee information exposure.

Physical/mental Requirements:

Ability to work an average of 40 hours per week, speak clearly so others understand, vision acuity to see details within a few feet of an observer, accepting of criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations, sensitivity to others needs, positive demean or, and model change management for the business. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Environmental Conditions:
Manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas. Plant environment is not climate controlled. Manufacturing processes involve granules, sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene. Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Experience within construction is preferred.

Responsibilities:
Nature & Scope of Position:

Safety specialist to oversee safety compliance, conduct daily inspections, coordinate safety meetings, and ensure adherence to CertainTeeds safety protocols. The Safety coordinator will maintain daily logs, document safety observations, and report directly to the plant Safety Supervisor/ Manager.
Experience in manufacturing, slips, trips, and falls. LOTO and machine guarding.
