Job Description

Capitol Academy & Capitol Elementary | Sacramento, CA

$35-$50/hour | Full-Time & Part-Time | 205-Day School Year | $2,500 Signing Bonus

Make a Difference Where It Matters Most

What if your work as a COTA could go beyond a therapy session and become part of a student's entire school experience?

At Capitol Academy and Capitol Elementary, you'll work alongside teachers, therapists, behavioral specialists, and administrators to help students develop the skills they need to learn, participate, communicate, and thrive.

Founded in 2005, Capitol Academy and Capitol Elementary are Non-Public Schools (NPS) serving students with diverse learning, behavioral, developmental, and social-emotional needs. Our small-class environment allows our team to provide highly individualized support--and allows you to see the difference your work makes every day.

If you're looking for a collaborative school-based environment where your clinical skills are valued and your relationships with students truly matter, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA), you will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to implement individualized treatment plans and support students throughout their school day.

You'll:

  • Implement occupational therapy interventions under the direction of the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Help students develop fine motor, sensory regulation, self-help, and functional skills.
  • Incorporate therapeutic strategies into the student's daily school environment.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, behavioral staff, therapists, and other members of the student's support team.
  • Document therapy sessions, student progress, and treatment outcomes.
  • Prepare therapy materials, equipment, and learning environments.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students and celebrate their progress.
  • Participate as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on each student's individual growth and success.

Why You'll Love Working Here

Your work is personal. Your impact is visible.

  • Small class sizes that allow for meaningful, individualized student support.
  • Collaborative clinical environment with strong support from OTs, educators, and behavioral professionals.
  • School-year schedule with a 205-day work year.
  • $35-$50/hour, based on experience and qualifications.
  • $2,500 signing bonus.
  • Paid training and professional development.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for eligible employees.
  • Life insurance.
  • 401(k), vested after your first year.
  • Strong curriculum and classroom resources--you won't be expected to reinvent the wheel.
  • Opportunities for professional and leadership growth within our expanding NPS/NPA network.
  • The opportunity to work with students who benefit from individualized support and to see the progress you help create.

What Makes Our Schools Different?

Our students need more than a traditional classroom environment. They need a team that understands the whole child.

At Capitol Academy and Capitol Elementary, therapists aren't working in isolation. You'll be part of the school community. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate directly with the people who work with your students every day and help carry therapeutic strategies into the classroom and beyond.

For the right COTA, this means less time feeling like an outside provider and more time being an integral part of a student's team.

What We're Looking For

  • Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current California Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license.
  • CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Experience working with children or in a school-based setting preferred.
  • Experience supporting students with autism and/or other developmental differences preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • A patient, compassionate, and positive approach to working with students.
  • A desire to be part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a supportive school culture.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you're a COTA who wants to use your skills in a setting where relationships matter, teamwork is valued, and you can see the impact of your work every day, Capitol Academy and Capitol Elementary may be the place for you.
