Marshall County School District School Counselor Job Description
JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of the Marshall County School District's written, taught, tested, and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To ensure the reflection and communication of a positive image and attitude toward decisions and functions of the district as they relate to the public, staff, parents and students. To provide valuable assistance to students to address academic and developmental needs QUALIFICATIONS: Holds a current MS teaching license. Certification: 436 (Guidance Counselor K-12) Has a thorough understanding of the educational system, including social and cultural influences on educational practices Is knowledgeable of the organizational structure and elements of a successful school counseling program Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication. Displays ability to establish and maintain a positive rapport with students, staff, parents and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Principal or designee.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Developing, implementing and managing school guidance programs Working with students in individual, small group and classroom settings Assisting students with creating an academic plan for their education Helping students plan for college and a successful career after graduation Working with students to develop critical life skills such as organization and time management Helping students work through difficult situations, such as a divorce or death in the family Collaborating with other educators and administrators to ensure counseling programs meet school goals Monitoring and recording student progress to ensure counseling programs are effective OTHER DUTIES: Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The salary will be determined by the number of years' experience and length of contract shall be 217 days unless changed by the school board.
