    Job Description

Imagine turning a scattered set of talent tools into a single, AI-native platform, and leading the engineering effort that makes it real. We are hiring a Software Development Manager in Bellevue to do exactly that. As a technical leader, you will stay hands-on while defining and measuring a new way of working built around the agentic development life cycle.

Day to day, you will work with your SDEs and steer agents to build the product experience for Talent Evaluation at Amazon. That means connecting multiple product domains, coordinating across engineering teams and several VP-level organizations, and owning the end-to-end experience for corporate Amazonians as they navigate their growth and development at Amazon.

This is not a typical people management role. You should be excited to experiment with the agentic development life cycle, go beyond vibe coding, introduce full automation, and build layers of verification that create trustworthy and responsible AI systems. Robust, user-friendly software and strong data security and privacy sit at the top of our priority list. The right candidate brings a passion for innovation, a keen interest in emerging technology, and genuine excitement about working in a high-impact domain.

The role rewards someone who is customer obsessed and thrives in a fast-paced environment, one that calls for strong technical and business judgment alongside solid communication and project management skills. You know how to help engineers navigate competing priorities and set clear expectations with customers, and you are well versed in distributed systems architecture and the software development life cycle.

Given the interdisciplinary nature and breadth of this space, the ideal candidate will coordinate across many internal and external teams and give senior leaders clear visibility through strong written and verbal communication. Beyond that, we are drawn to people who learn quickly, think big, execute both strategically and tactically, and motivate and mentor a team to deliver business value on time. They bring a creative, startup mindset and feel energized by new and ambiguous challenges.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
