    Solar Swim & Gym - Seasonal Camp Director

    Reports to: Assistant Site Manager
    Direct Reports: Camp Counselors
    Employment: Hourly

    Position Overview
    The Camp Director leads the planning and day-to-day operation of Solar Swim & Gym’s seasonal Summer, Winter, and Spring camps. This position oversees camp staff, schedules, activities, camper safety, parent communication, and the overall camp experience.


    The Camp Director works closely with the Behavioral Program Analyst to implement inclusive programming, behavioral-support strategies, and neurodiverse curriculum so campers of varying abilities and support needs can safely and successfully participate.


    Key Responsibilities

    1. Camp Programming and Operations
    • Plan and lead the daily flow of camp, including schedules, activities, transitions, swim time, meals, and special programming.
    • Develop engaging camp themes, activities, games, and experiences appropriate for camper ages and abilities.
    • Ensure camp spaces, supplies, equipment, and materials are organized and ready for daily programming.
    • Monitor camper enrollment, attendance, staffing, and daily operational needs.
    • Coordinate with site leadership regarding facility use, aquatics, fitness activities, and other camp needs.

    2. Staff Leadership

    • Supervise, schedule, train, and provide daily direction to Camp Counselors.
    • Ensure appropriate counselor coverage and camper supervision throughout the camp day.
    • Lead pre-camp orientation, staff meetings, daily huddles, and ongoing training as needed.
    • Monitor counselor performance, professionalism, attendance, and adherence to camp expectations.
    • Address routine staff concerns and escalate significant performance or conduct issues to the Assistant Site Manager.
    3. Inclusive Programming and Behavioral Support

    • Work in tandem with the Behavioral Program Analyst to implement neurodiverse curriculum, behavioral-support strategies, and inclusive camp practices.
    • Ensure Camp Counselors are trained on established strategies for supporting neurodivergent campers and campers with varying support needs.
    • Help staff recognize and appropriately respond to behavioral, sensory, communication, and participation needs.
    • Implement individualized accommodations or support strategies as directed by the Behavioral Program Analyst and site leadership.
    • Communicate significant behavioral or support concerns and collaborate on appropriate next steps.
    4. Camper Safety and Compliance

    • Maintain active oversight of camper safety, supervision, and staff-to-camper coverage throughout camp operations.
    • Ensure staff follow established procedures for camper check-in/out, attendance, transitions, pool activities, emergencies, and incident reporting.
    • Ensure required staff training, certifications, background screening, and company requirements for working with minors are completed.
    • Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral incidents, emergencies, or other safety concerns.
    • Maintain accurate camp records and required documentation.

    5. Parent & Camper Experience
    • Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for parents and families regarding routine camp questions and concerns.
    • Create a welcoming, engaging, organized, and inclusive experience for campers.
    • Communicate professionally with families regarding schedules, activities, camper needs, and relevant incidents.
    • Address routine parent concerns and escalate significant issues to the Assistant Site Manager as appropriate.
    • Monitor camper engagement and overall program experience and make adjustments when needed.

    • Implementation of inclusive and neurodiverse programming
    • Parent communication and satisfaction

    • Accurate scheduling, attendance, and documentation
    • Communication and collaboration with site leadership
    Qualifications
    • Experience working in camps, childcare, recreation, education, youth programming, aquatics, or a related environment.
    • Previous experience leading or supervising employees or youth-program staff preferred.
    • Experience planning and leading activities for children of varying ages and abilities.
    • Experience working with neurodivergent children or individuals with varying support needs strongly preferred.
    • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond calmly and appropriately to changing situations.
    • CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
    • Must complete all required training, background screening, and requirements for working with minors.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Hourly: $21-$23
    Schedule: Subject to camp term 
     Fall 1: September 23-Oct. 2
     Fall 2: Oct. 5-9
     Fall 3: Nov. 23-25
     Winter 1: Dec. 21-23
     Winter 2: Dec. 28-30
    Employment Status: Seasonal
    Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt, At Will 

    Schedule & Availability Requirements
    This is an hourly, non-exempt position with hours based on seasonal camp programming and operational needs.

    The Camp Director is expected to be onsite during assigned camp hours and may be required to work additional hours for planning, staff training, camp setup, parent communication, and program preparation. Reliable attendance throughout assigned camp sessions is required.


    Physical Work Requirements
    • Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and move throughout the facility and camp activity areas.
    • Ability to actively participate in and supervise recreational, fitness, and pool-based camp activities.
    • Ability to enter and exit the swimming pool as required by camp programming.
    • Ability to lift, carry, or move camp equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
    • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to camper safety concerns and emergency situations.
    • Ability to work in active indoor and outdoor environments, including around water, humidity, wet surfaces, varying temperatures, and moderate to high noise levels.
