PRIMARY PURPOSE: Maximize achievement and growth for all students through building capacity in teachers by providing ongoing coaching. Support teachers in learning and applying best practices in a variety of educational settings by promoting collaboration, modeling innovation, and promoting a growth mindset. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Master's degree preferred Valid Texas Teaching Certificate Valid ESL Supplemental Certification Minimum of 30 Gifted & Talented clock hours or a commitment to complete the required hours Willingness to obtain additional certifications (as needed) Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and research-based "best practices" Understanding of curriculum, implementation, and standards alignment Experience working with teachers to improve instruction and student learning Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills Ability to model lessons and to provide coaching to adults Ability to disaggregate and analyze data Ability to work with diverse populations Ability to structure own time and management of multiple priorities Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners Ability to effectively communicate with others in written, interpersonal, and verbal formats (listening) Demonstrates flexibility Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as part of a team and solve problems collaboratively Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate relationships Evidence of taking district or campus leadership positions or opportunities over the past three years Knowledge of the change process and ability to be an agent of change Knowledge of the RTI Process to assist teachers in planning student interventions Ability to utilize technology for communication, planning, training and classroom instruction Ability to maintain confidentiality Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development Understanding of student engagement and how it relates to instructional design Understanding of strategies to meet the needs of students of special populations, such as English Learners, gifted and talented, and students served by special education Willingness to participate in professional learning related to instructional coaching Experience: At least five years of teaching experience MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Role of Instructional Specialist:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal Computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Frequent walking. Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. Work inside may work outside; regular exposure to noise. Maintain emotional control under stress: work prolonged or irregular hours. Daily in-person attendance is an essential function for this position. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluations.
