The Kodiak Island Borough School District has the following vacancies for the 2026-2027 school year:

Secretary III

Location: Federal Programs, Kodiak, Alaska

Hours: 8 hrs/day, 5 days/week / 11 months

Salary: Entry Range 16.5, Step 1: $23.91 per hour

GRANT FUNDED- 1 YEAR ONLY

Position Summary: Employees occupying positions in this classification are responsible for performing a complete range of secretarial duties within a school office or department as directed. Work is performed independently according

to established procedures. A Secretary III is the secretary to a specific supervisor a program or department. Work may be reviewed occasionally for accuracy, productivity and in accordance with district policies and

procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent and prefer one-year experience or training in general office and accounting procedures.

  2. Rapid, accurate typing ? 60 wpm minimum.

  3. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents.

  4. Ability to organize, manage and direct the office operations with minimal supervision.

  5. Operate current office technology as appropriate.

  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.

  7. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for specific or assigned filing systems.

  2. May take dictation and transcription.

  3. Routinely compose or produce correspondence and reports.

  4. Collect and distribute materials.

  5. Coordinate travel arrangements ? initiate travel authorizations and per diem reimbursements.

  6. Accept direction from Secretary IV as necessary.

  7. Responsible for student daily attendance records and student files.

  8. Responsible for student enrollment.

  9. Assist in supervision of students who are sent to school office when necessary.

  10. Responsible for securing substitute teachers when necessary.

  11. Assist with first aid when necessary.

  12. Act as substitute or backup for Secretary IV as necessary for short periods of time.

  13. Perform assigned data entry.

  14. May direct personnel at a lower level.

  15. Responsible for adequate supply and inventory of necessary materials for building operations.

  16. Make appointments and maintain calendar of events.

  17. Prepare purchase orders, requisitions, and requests for payment. Maintain and monitor budget.

  18. Coordinate attendance and time sheets for all building employees.

  19. Maintain the building key distribution system.

  20. Responsible for confidentiality of personnel-related communications.

  21. Responsible for student fund accounting, collection and deposits of moneys, check processing and record keeping.

  22. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.

  23. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
