JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for managing the daily operations of the Training Division, serving as the ACIC Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC), implementing training programs for employees, and maintaining all division records and certifications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Creates and coordinates classes, required training, certification, and recertification for current employees with the Sheriff's Office; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Maintains calendar of training events and coordinates activities related to training; schedules appointments, makes travel arrangements, and determines total cost.
- Monitors employee training requirements, schedules training to ensure requirements are met in a timely manner.
- Answers calls from employees, supervisors, or administrative staff; answers questions or directs to the appropriate division or department.
- Coordinates and administers required training and certification courses for newly hired employees within the department.
- Processes and maintains personnel and training files for reserve deputies, Volunteers in Police Service (VIPs), and interns within the Sheriff's Office.
- Coordinates training and orientation of volunteers and interns; ensures all necessary training is provided and completed.
- Performs required background checks for firearms records, pardons, security guards, and ACIC users; collects required paperwork and supporting documents and forwards to the chain of command for review.
- Maintains the ACADIS database portal for Sheriff's Department, entering employee training hours and reviewing available training; manages employees within the database.
- Serves as the ACIC Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC), ensuring state and federal requirements are met for ACIC users; assists ACIC personnel in record audits, security checks, and audits as needed.
- Proctors testing for employees for training and certification purposes.
- Acts as a liaison between agency departments and outside organizations as related to departmental training; gathers and relays information as needed.
- Coordinates the use of training facilities and equipment; ensures equipment is functioning efficiently, required resources are available, and required documentation is collected.
- Receives and processes training and certification requests for all employees and volunteers; maintains participant training records.
- Performs administrative functions such as scanning, copying, filing, and managing training email accounts as needed.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with area agencies to develop resources for the community and training instructors.
- Recommends updates to department policies, procedures, and manuals when legislation changes.
- Maintains accurate records of equipment assigned to personnel; updates records as needed.
- Complies monthly, quarterly, and annually reports on division activities, participation, and needs; relays information and makes suggestions to chain of command.
- Creates and manages training division databases, as needed, to maintain accurate training and certification records.
- Creates and prints certificates, flyers, and manuals for training or certifications courses.
- Attends conferences and committee meetings related to ACIC, training, VIPS, and Chaplains.
- Acts as a notary for the training division as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of the Arkansas State Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) rules and training requirements and certifications.
- Considerable knowledge of the certification requirements for ACIC users.
- Good knowledge of office practices, procedures, equipment, and terminology.
- Ability to conduct research, compile data, and prepare materials for trainings.
- Ability to prepare training courses in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and requirements.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to read and interpret laws, legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain detailed filing system.
- Ability to attend work regularly and reliably.
- Skill in the operation of a computer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Digital dexterity is necessary for keyboard and calculator operation.
- Visual acuity is necessary for use of a computer screen.
- Ability to orally communicate effectively, both in person and by telephone.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of high school or GED equivalency with college level courses in Criminal Justice, Education, or a related field; considerable clerical, training, or related work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, including a fingerprint check through the FBI, a child maltreatment check, and an adult maltreatment check.
- Completion of Level 2 ACIC/NCIC certification within one year of employment.
- No felony convictions.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
