We are looking for an experienced security leader to join the Cloud Security team. As a security leader, you will own building and managing a team of incident managers and technical leaders, fostering a strong team culture. You and your team will be expected to drive engineering teams to take the right actions in the right time frames to mitigate risks.

We"re looking for a leader that"s highly passionate about the potential of cloud computing and building a high performing incident management team, working closely with our incident responders. Ideally you have a track record of delivering high quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. You should know how to prioritize, communicate clearly and compellingly, and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong team. Cloud Incident Management in particular, operates at very large scale and demands high standards, so a passion and discipline around security and delivery is critical. A high level of ownership and accountability is a must.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of security engineers, focusing on recruitment, development, and retention of top security talent.
  • Drive operational excellence in incident management processes, establishing and maintaining SLAs, metrics, and quality standards for security response activities.
  • Partner with service teams and stakeholders across AWS to ensure security issues are properly prioritized and remediated according to risk levels and customer impact.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve security response capabilities, including automation, process improvements, and scaling mechanisms.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and psychological safety while maintaining high security standards and operational excellence.
  • Manage cross-organizational relationships and communication channels to ensure effective escalation paths and resolution of complex security challenges.
  • Lead the development and implementation of security frameworks and controls that balance risk mitigation with business objectives and builder experience.
  • Establish and maintain mechanisms for measuring team performance, operational metrics, and security program effectiveness.
  • Guide architectural decisions and technical strategy for security solutions across multiple organizations and services.
  • Mentor and develop future security leaders while creating growth opportunities for team members.

A day in the life

As a Security Manager, your day typically starts with reviewing overnight security incidents and operational metrics during the team"s daily standup. You"ll spend time in 1:1s with your direct reports, providing guidance on complex security issues and career development. Throughout the day, you"ll participate in strategic planning sessions with service teams, review architectural proposals, and work on improving incident response processes. You"ll also engage with senior leadership to provide updates on critical security initiatives and handle escalations when necessary. The role requires balancing tactical incident management with long-term strategic planning while ensuring your team maintains high security standards at scale.

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
