    Job DescriptionSUMMARY - We are seeking a dedicated Security Guard for the City of Laurel Multiservice Center (LMSC) primarily serving individuals requiring social needs. The employee in this position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all visitors staff residents and property within the center. This role requires a background in security operations and an understanding of trauma and how it affects an individual's physical and mental health and interacts with others in a manner that does not inadvertently re-traumatize. Candidates should have a professional demeanor excellent customer service skills and the ability to work on their feet for extended periods of time. Should have keen familiarity with security equipment (e.g. metal detectors CCTV systems access control alarm systems). Training will be provided. This position reports to the Programs Operations Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    Enforcing organizational policies deterring criminal activity monitoring surveillance equipment and responding to emergencies. Monitoring and patrolling the premises of the City of Laurel Multiservice Center and respond to critical incidents. Maintaining a visible and reassuring presence to deter unauthorized entry and ensure a safe environment for clients staff and visitors. Enforcing facility rules and regulations consistently and respectfully addressing non-compliance as necessary. Utilizing de-escalating techniques to decrease the severity of conflict whether of physical verbal or other nature. Conducting regular security checks of facilities ensuring all areas are secure and in compliance with safety protocols. Responding promptly to emergencies including medical situations disturbances or safety threats following established procedures. Communicating effectively with staff clients and visitors providing assistance and directions with empathy and professionalism. Collaborating with local law enforcement and emergency services when needed facilitating a coordinated response to incidents. Completing detailed incident reports and documentation as required. Completes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) and Stop the Bleed Training as needed. Willingly and cooperatively accepts other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - The minimum eligibility requirements for this position are as follows:

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - High School diploma or equivalent; additional training in security or related fields is an advantage. Minimum of 1 year of work experience in security operations preferably in a similar environment (e.g. shelter social services) with a focus on customer service and conflict resolution.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds including those requiring social needs.Physical fitness and readiness to respond to emergencies and perform security patrols as needed. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including patrolling and responding to emergencies.

    CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS - - Current Maryland Security Guard Certification preferred.Must be willing to complete Maryland State approved Security Guard Certification Training Program and obtain Security Guard Certification before January 1 2025. Must possess a current and valid Class "C" Maryland driver's license or a comparable driver's license issued by the employee's state of residence and a proven safe driving record. Must be able to attain the following certifications in the Incident Command System (ICS) within 1 (one) week of employment: ICS-100 and ICS-700.
