Security Traffic Control Officer - Seasonal

PURPOSE: To ensure effective traffic flow throughout Mall of America's parking lots and ramps by directing traffic and communicating with guests as they arrive and depart.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Direct motor vehicles through the MOA parking ramps and ramp entrances.
• Set up and collect traffic cones for the upper levels of the parking ramps to establish inbound and outbound lanes for traffic flow.
• Ensure clear radio traffic so all officers and supervisors are aware of incidents and safety concerns.
• Assist drivers and pedestrians to navigate safely through the parking ramps.
• Quickly adapt to changes, adjust cones, and direct traffic flow according to direction and ramp capacity.
• Identify and report harmful or hazardous conditions or emergency situations.
• Maintain safety awareness at all times to ensure the safety of self, other team members, and guests.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with upset guests, ensuring the safety of self and others.
• Assist in detecting at-risk guests and situations by reporting concerns using provided radio.
• Assist other MOA Security divisions by observing and reporting suspicious activity.
• Cross train with the PEP unit as needed.
• Work in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold with MOA issued gear.
• Work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and high volume days.
• Additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
• Successful completion of MOA classroom training.
• Excellent coordination and movement skills.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the officer will occasionally be required to speak and listen to guests to understand their needs and communicate a solution. Officers must possess a level of hearing that will continuously allow them to be aware of their surroundings and recognize when a guest or other team member needs their attention. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Officers are required to be able to tolerate multiple sensory stimuli at once while performing their duties. These stimuli may include: loud auditory/noise, smells/olfactory, hot/cold temperatures, bright lights, colors, motion, and other visual and tactile stimuli.

• Sit: Rarely, about 5% of the time

• Bend/Stoop: Occasionally, about 50% of the time

• Kneel/Squat: Infrequently, about 30% of the time

• Less than 10lb: Occasionally 45%

• 11-25lb: Infrequently 25%

• 26-50lb: Rarely 10%

• Over 50lb: Rarely 5%

• Push/Pull: Occasionally, about 45% of the time

• Twist: Frequently, about 75% of the time

• Reach above shoulders: Infrequently, about 25% of the time

• Reach at or below shoulders: Frequently 80% of the time

• Reach at/below waist: Rarely 10%

• Dexterity: up to 100% of the time

• Use of at least one hand is required to perform duties and maintain safety standards
