The ideal candidate brings a self‑driven, detail‑oriented mentality with a commitment to accuracy, sound judgment, and continuous process improvement.What Your Day Will Look LikeContributing to monthly and annual close cycles, including journal entries and account analysisPreparing, analyzing, and reviewing financial statements for accuracy and GAAP compliancePerforming general ledger accounting, journal entries, billing and accounts payable entries, and bank/account reconciliationsEnsuring accurate and timely reconciliation of complex accounts and resolving variancesAnalyzing financial data and transactions to identify trends, risks, and opportunitiesProviding guidance and mentorship to accounting clerks and junior staffResearching, analyzing, and resolving complex accounting or reporting discrepanciesPreparing and presenting financial reports and analysis to managementEnsuring compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and applicable regulationsPerforming daily cash & banking tasksPerforming system setup tasks to ensure accuracy across client projects and revenue reportingYou're perfect for this role if you:Keep high standards of accuracy and organizationEnjoy meeting deadlines and feeling a sense of accomplishmentThink critically and recognize when something is offCommunicate difficult and complicated topics with ease and simplicityBring strong proficiency in MS Office and accounting softwareWork well independently and as part of a teamManage your time well and prioritize tasks effectivelyWhat You BringStrong analytical skills with a desire to grow in knowledge, leadership, and responsibilityStrong attention to detailStrong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and general ledger accountingBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field required; CPA or CPA candidate preferred2+ years of progressive accounting experience (prior experience in a consulting or professional services firm is a plus!)Strong Excel skills, including Vlookups and pivot tables (bonus points if you know keyboard shortcuts)What We ProvideAt Merit, we ask a lot of our employees, which is why we give so much in return.
