Additionally, the role supports indirect rate management, project accounting, and audit readiness across a portfolio of cost-type, T&M, and firm-fixed-price contracts. This is a hands-on position for an accountant who knows GovCon.
Key Responsibilities:
General Ledger and Month-end Close
- Own assigned month-end close tasks on a defined calendar, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, deferrals, and fixed asset depreciation.
- Maintain the GL and chart of accounts in alignment with the company's disclosed accounting practices and indirect cost pool structure.
- Prepare and review journal entries with complete supporting documentation suitable for DCAA review.
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Reconciliations
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations for cash, AR, unbilled receivables, AP, accrued liabilities, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Bank reconciliations and BBC preparation.
- Reconcile subledgers to the GL, including labor distribution, project ledgers, and timekeeping.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly and escalate aged or unusual items.
Audit, Compliance, and Controls
- Support DCAA audits, financial statement audits, and tax preparation by producing schedules and responding to requests.
- Maintain internal controls over timekeeping, labor charging, and expense review consistent with DCAA expectations.
- Document and improve accounting procedures and close checklists.
Analysis and Reporting
- Build and maintain Excel models and reports for close, reconciliations, rate tracking, and management reporting.
- Identify process improvements and automation opportunities within the accounting system and Excel workflows.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. May substitute years for degree.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a government contractor.
- Working knowledge of FAR Part 31 cost principles, CAS, and DCAA audit expectations, including allowable versus unallowable cost treatment.
- Hands-on experience with GL maintenance, full-cycle month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience with indirect cost pools (Fringe, Overhead, G&A) and accounting for cost-reimbursable, T&M, and FFP contracts.
- Advanced Excel skills: XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, pivot tables, data validation, and building structured, auditable workbooks. Power Query experience is a strong plus.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and the ability to meet firm close deadlines.
- Ability to communicate clearly with non-finance stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Unanet (GovCon ERP), including project accounting, labor distribution, and close processes. Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar GovCon systems is also valued.
- Experience preparing or supporting the annual Incurred Cost Submission (ICS).
- Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition on government contracts.
