ABOUT SRE
SRE Engineering, D.P.C. is a New York State and City certified M/WBE and DBE engineering and construction management firm with offices in Manhattan and Westchester County. We specialize in NYC municipal infrastructure — bridges, water mains, trunk mains, CSO facilities, pump stations, and coastal resiliency. We are a family-owned firm built on decades of institutional knowledge and a commitment to delivering complex urban infrastructure projects with integrity. Legacy Built. Woman Led. Future Driven.
THE OPPORTUNITY
SRE Engineering is seeking an experienced Hazmat/Environmental Inspector (NICET III) to support environmental compliance monitoring on a landmark NYCDOT bridge project Brooklyn. This project involves full bridge reconstruction within a sensitive urban parkland environment with active oversight from NYCDEP, NYCDPR, NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC), and NYSDEC. The role requires a detail-oriented professional with demonstrated experience in lead paint removal compliance, surface soil sampling, and multi-agency environmental coordination.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • NICET Level III certification required
  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I certification required
  • Minimum 7 years of bridge construction inspection experience
  • NYCDOT or NYSDOT bridge reconstruction or rehabilitation project experience required
  • Experience with historic bridge preservation, landmark structures, or LPC-governed projects strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with MURK (Manual of Uniform Record Keeping) diary and daily report standards required
  • Experience supporting shop drawing review and submittal log tracking preferred
  • Knowledge of NYCDOT Quality Assurance Manual for the Bridge Rehabilitation Program preferred
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to produce clear, accurate field documentation
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions on an active urban construction site
  • NYS PE license a plus but not required at this title level
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform daily field inspection of bridge reconstruction activities for conformance with contract plans, specifications, and construction standards
  • Prepare Inspector's Daily Work Reports (MURK 1) and support the Engineer's Daily Contract Diary (MURK 2)
  • Monitor and document contractor operations including excavation, concrete placement, steel erection, and masonry work
  • Assist with field measurements, quantity computations, and sketches for payment documentation
  • Support shop drawing review tracking and submittal log maintenance
  • Monitor salvage, repair, and reinstallation of historically significant architectural elements including stone masonry, cast-iron parapets, and decorative components in coordination with LPC requirements
  • Coordinate with Resident Engineer on field conditions, change order documentation, and contractor compliance issues
  • Assist with maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) observations and diary entries
  • Maintain accurate electronic and hard copy project records throughout construction
Compensation: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
