Senior Building Inspector (Contract)
Location: Alhambra, CA
Schedule: 5/40, Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Assignment Type: Contract, Onsite Only
Pay Rate: $60 - $70 Hourly
Building and Safety is seeking a highly experienced Senior Building Inspector to support capital improvement and public infrastructure projects. This role performs complex field inspections and plan reviews for commercial and public works projects to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local building codes, ordinances, and safety standards.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive inspections of commercial, institutional, and public works construction projects at various stages of completion
- Inspect structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, accessibility, and fire/life safety components for code compliance
- Review construction plans, specifications, and permit documents, identify deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions
- Interpret and apply California Building Code, Electrical Code, Plumbing Code, Mechanical Code, Fire Code, and accessibility requirements
- Document inspection results clearly and accurately using written reports, field notes, and electronic systems
- Communicate inspection findings and corrective requirements to contractors, engineers, architects, and project stakeholders
- Respond to technical inquiries, resolve field issues, and provide guidance on code interpretations
- Coordinate with project managers and other inspection staff to support capital project timelines and quality standards
- Support quality assurance efforts by ensuring consistent application of codes and inspection practices
- Maintain current knowledge of code updates, construction methods, and regulatory changes
Required Qualifications
* Active ICC certifications in Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical, or a Commercial Combination Inspector certification
* Combination Inspector credentials strongly preferred
* Strong working knowledge of California Building Standards Codes
* Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering plans, and technical calculations
* Valid California Class C Driver's License
Preferred Qualification
* CASp Certification (desired but not required)
