What you'll do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Applied Chiller business. In this highly visible position, you'll lead requirements and delivery for a development team responsible for our cloud-based equipment selection platforms, strategic solutions backed by multi-million-dollar investments that drive competitive advantage across the organization. You'll serve as the bridge between business and technology, transforming complex needs into actionable work, owning the product backlog, and influencing a cross-functional team of developers, QA professionals, architects, and technical leaders to deliver exceptional outcomes.

This position is based onsite at our Advanced Development & Engineering Center of Excellence in New Freedom, PA. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate. Various relocation packages are available.

How you'll do it

  • Lead a development team's backlog: break Features into User Stories with clear acceptance criteria and keep work ready against the team's Definition of Ready.
  • Facilitate backlog refinement and take part in PI planning, system demos and the team's Kanban cadences.
  • Confer with product management, engineering, sales and field users to understand current procedures, problems, data inputs and outputs, and reporting needs.
  • Write use cases, workflow diagrams and data models that specify what the system will automate and what users will do.
  • Review system capabilities and constraints to judge whether a requested change is feasible, and work with architects and tech leads to weigh solution options.
  • Validate delivered work against acceptance criteria and demo it to stakeholders.
  • Plan and coordinate dependencies with other teams, including Scrum teams, and external resources.
  • Provide 2nd-level support for equipment selection tools: triage field issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Keep work visible and transparent through status, risks and delivery metrics.
  • Use AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Claude to work faster, communicate more clearly, and keep the team's work transparent.
  • Collaborate with other analysts and help improve backlog standards and team processes.

What you will need

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or a technical field, or equivalent experience; Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of product, business systems analysis or software development lifecycle experience.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps or a similar tool (e.g., Jira).
  • Understanding of web and cloud applications, APIs and data integration.

Preferred

  • HVAC or related industry experience; experience with equipment selection, performance rating or product certification a
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Claude to drive efficiency, improve communication and transparency, and execute work.
  • Proven experience writing Features and User Stories with acceptance criteria on Agile teams; experience with SAFe and with both Kanban and Scrum teams.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and advanced Excel; Power BI or similar reporting tools.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $80,000 - $120,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
