About the Role:

This role is within Implementation Services (IST). IST is comprised of specialist teams whose members support the XPS Administration business in a variety of areas. The teams provide technical, IT and specialist expertise to XPS Administration that underpins the quality solutions we provide to our administration clients. The teams are located across the XPS Administration national offices.

As a Senior Calculations Coder, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of scheme specific calculations using C# on Calculate platform. This role ensures that individual pension schemes are correctly configured using tailored calculation templates, aligned with scheme requirements and business rules.

Focussed on scheme-level coding, as distinct from global code development. Work closely with analysts and administrators to understand scheme-specific logic and deliver custom implementations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of complex calculations for individual schemes using predefined calculation templates.
• Mentor junior and mid-level Calculations Coders, supporting their growth and development.
• Review and provide feedback on the works of other calculation coders, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across the team - including process and coding practices.
• Tailor calculation logic and structure to suit unique scheme rules and benefit types.
• Set up and maintain test cases for scheme specific calculations.
• Investigate and resolve complex scheme-related issues or change requests (e.g. bug fixes, enhancements).
• Engage proactively in sprint ceremonies and cross-functional meetings to support planning, prioritisation, and delivery.
• Collaborate with analysts and admin teams to shape requirements clarify scheme-specific requirements.
• Use Jira for managing workflow, tracking tasks, and reporting progress.

Due to the changing nature of the business, the job holder may from time to time be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within their capabilities.

Your Profile:

Essential:

• Proven Experience (typically 4+ years) in Calculation Implementations.
• Strong technical and analytical skills, capable of leading delivery within prescribed frameworks and timescales.
• Experience guiding and reviewing the work of other developers or junior team members.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to think laterally.
• Good communications skills with the ability to build working relationships with different stakeholder.

• Enthusiasm for and commitment to producing high-quality work within the prescribed frameworks.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Actively staying current with Technology trends in the programming/technical community
• Qualification or evidence to support individual discipline, this could be but not limited to; SQL, PowerBI. Azure Data Factory.
• Advanced skills in C# and Visual Studio.
• Identification and management of Change control.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite and other analytical applications.
• Represent the team/department as subject matter expert on a wide range of projects.
• Positive and adaptable, responds well to feedback and need for change.

Desirable:

• Background in Employee Benefits and/or Life & Pensions industries.
• Experience working with calculation templates and scheme specific logic in a pensions or financial services context.
• Understands the methodologies used in a software development and support environment e.g. Agile, Waterfall, ITIL.
• Some experience working with test-driven development or writing/maintaining unit/integration tests.
