    Senior Chiller Technician Large Tonnage HVAC Systems

    Location: Detroit, MI
    Employment Type: Full-Time 
    Compensation: $35-$53/hour, based on experience and certifications

    Global Placement Firm is partnering with a premier mechanical services company in Detroit, Michigan to identify a highly skilled Senior Chiller Technician experienced in the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of large tonnage HVAC and chiller systems.

    Position Summary

    As a Senior Chiller Technician, you will:

    • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain centrifugal, screw, and absorption chillers, as well as complex HVAC systems.

    • Perform precision diagnostics, system optimization, and preventive maintenance to ensure peak system performance.

    • Utilize advanced manufacturer-specific software and tools to perform system analysis and calibration.

    • Collaborate with project and engineering teams on chiller retrofits, overhauls, and performance upgrades.

    • Document service activities, performance metrics, and client communications with accuracy and professionalism.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct in-depth troubleshooting of large tonnage chiller systems (air-cooled and water-cooled).

    • Execute refrigerant management, oil analysis, and vibration testing in compliance with industry standards.

    • Support installations, startups, and commissioning of new systems.

    • Ensure compliance with EPA, ASHRAE, and OSHA guidelines.

    Technical Expertise: Extensive knowledge of large tonnage chillers, HVAC systems, and advanced controls.
    Leadership: Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other technicians effectively.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 5-7 years of hands-on experience servicing large tonnage chillers and HVAC systems.

    • EPA Universal Certification (required).

    • Proficiency with leading chiller manufacturers such as Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, or McQuay.

    • Working knowledge of BAS/BMS systems and digital controls.

    • Valid drivers license and clean driving record.

    • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and fieldwork as required.
