    JOB DESCRIPTION

We’re seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support and lead the commissioning of complex commercial, institutional, federal, and industrial facilities. In this role, you will help ensure that a building's mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, and building control systems are properly installed, tested, integrated, and performing as intended.

You will work throughout the project lifecycle, from design and document review through functional testing, integrated systems testing, troubleshooting, and project closeout. This is a hands-on, client-facing engineering position that combines technical analysis, field work, project leadership, and collaboration with owners, contractors, designers, and other engineering professionals.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys figuring out how systems work, identifying problems, finding the root cause, and making sure the final solution actually performs as intended..

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    Commissioning & Testing

    • Lead and execute commissioning activities from design review through occupancy.
    • Develop commissioning plans, schedules, sequences of operation, test procedures, and integrated test matrices.
    • Plan and perform functional performance testing of HVAC systems, central plants, electrical distribution, emergency power, plumbing, fire alarm, smoke control, and other building systems.
    • Lead integrated testing involving emergency power, life-safety systems, BAS, and system interlocks.
    • Verify that installed systems perform according to design, owner requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.

    Technical Analysis & Troubleshooting

    • Investigate system performance issues through field observation, testing data, BAS trends, and technical analysis.
    • Identify root causes and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
    • Evaluate deficiencies and determine whether issues are related to design, construction, controls, installation, or operation.
    • Retest systems after corrections to verify successful resolution.

    Design & Construction Support

    • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation to identify coordination opportunities, commissioning risks, and potential performance issues.
    • Observe equipment installation and verify systems are ready for commissioning and testing.
    • Work closely with contractors, designers, owners, and testing agencies throughout project execution.

    Project & Client Leadership

    • Lead commissioning meetings and coordinate testing activities across multiple disciplines.
    • Serve as a technical resource and client-facing representative for the company.
    • Take ownership of assigned commissioning scopes and help drive projects through successful completion.
    • Manage project priorities, communicate progress, and keep stakeholders informed.

    Documentation

    • Prepare commissioning reports, deficiency logs, test documentation, and project closeout materials.
    • Maintain clear and accurate records of testing, findings, corrective actions, and final results.

    Mentorship & Team Development

    • Provide technical guidance to early-career engineers.
    • Share commissioning knowledge, testing methodologies, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices with the broader team.
    • Lead by example while contributing to a collaborative engineering environment.

    WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for an engineer who combines hands-on commissioning experience with strong technical judgment, communication, and ownership. You should be comfortable working independently, asking questions when needed, taking the lead in the field, and communicating technical information clearly to both engineering professionals and clients.
