POSITION TITLE: Senior Data Scientist I/Senior Data Scientist II
DEPARTMENT: Advanced Analytics and Data Intelligence
- POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) related field or a similar quantitative analytics field; Master's Degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) related field or a similar quantitate analytics field preferred
- Minimum 2-4 years of professional experience with data science concepts, data transformation, algorithm development, and computational tools (e.g., Python, Spark/PySpark, SQL, and cloud-based data platforms such as Databricks)
- Professional experience manipulating and analyzing various types of data using Python, Spark, or similar software
- Experience with varying database structures and working with large datasets
- Proficiency with developing data visualization technology and capabilities (i.e. Power BI) in a professional setting
- Experience with a variety of data products that complement model/algorithm development and productionizing (e.g., Pandas, Azure AI Services, Databricks, Jupyter Notebooks)
- Experience working with LLM/generative AI tooling and APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, LangChain) to build AI-powered data products
- Experience with data tools and advanced analytic capabilities in the Azure cloud ecosystem, including Microsoft Foundry is preferred
- Experience productionizing data products and/or deploying machine learning or generative AI pipelines is preferred
- Strong problem-solving skills including ability to debug, troubleshoot, and design solutions to complex data product issues
- Analytical agility including ability to quickly learn and apply new modeling, machine learning, and AI techniques as they rapidly evolve
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices (e.g., version control, code review) to support production-quality data science work
The experience level of the candidate will determine level of position as Sr. Data Scientist I or Sr. Data Scientist II
As a full-stack data scientist, working across the Azure Cloud ecosystem including Microsoft Foundry, Databricks, and frontier models like OpenAI and Claude. The Senior Data Scientist I will drive the full data science lifecycle, from strategy and data preparation through algorithm development (including generative AI and agentic approaches) to communicating results in a way anyone can understand. A proactive, creative, curious mindset and a drive to grow your own skills will go a long way.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Develop, utilize and enhance data science tech stack and architecture including Azure Cloud and Microsoft Foundry platform, Databricks, and frontier models including OpenAI and Claude
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners including distribution leaders, citizen developers, data engineers, and cloud architects to understand, solve and deliver data products within an agile environment
- Own projects end-to-end, from exploration and modeling through deployment, monitoring, and delivery, ensuring outcomes align with business needs and applying responsible AI practices in production
- Identify and develop custom data models and algorithmic methods from classical ML (regression, classification, tree-based methods, clustering) to generative AI approaches (prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic workflows) to support all stages of the data science lifecycle
- Build clear, compelling visualizations and communicate findings through written and verbal deliverables (abstracts, data dictionaries, code libraries, research findings, modeling/deployment reports, and recommended next steps)
- Build internal relationships to evangelize data and AI, helping the broader organization understand and adopt data-driven approaches
- Stay current on rapidly evolving techniques in machine learning, generative AI, agentic AI, and MLOps/LLMOps practices
HOURS/LOCATION:
- 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Overtime as required)
- Pittsburgh, PA 15222 (Hybrid in office work schedule)
