Job Description


A global financial-services organization is seeking a senior hands-on Database Administrator to support and modernize a mission-critical Microsoft SQL Server and Azure database environment.

This role combines traditional production DBA ownership with cloud database engineering, performance optimization, automation, resiliency, observability, and platform modernization. The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical escalation resource while helping improve how database platforms are engineered, operated, monitored, secured, and migrated across a hybrid environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server and Azure-resident database platforms.
  • Provide L3 support for complex database incidents and service requests.
  • Maintain database availability, reliability, performance, security, and recoverability.
  • Manage installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning.
  • Design and support high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
  • Support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
  • Plan and execute database migrations between on-premises and Azure environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex database and application-performance issues.
  • Optimize indexing, stored procedures, ETL processes, schema design, and application queries.
  • Automate database operations using PowerShell and related engineering tools.
  • Improve monitoring, observability, capacity planning, documentation, and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and information-security teams.

Role Requirements
  • 8+ years of enterprise Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
  • Deep hands-on SQL Server expertise.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
  • Advanced database and production troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong database performance-tuning capabilities.
  • Experience with SQL Server high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and recovery.
  • Experience with database monitoring and observability.
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, networking, security, and operational resiliency.
  • Strong communication and end-to-end ownership.
  • Ability to participate in a 24x7 production on-call rotation.
  • Ability to meet the hybrid onsite schedule in Iselin, NJ.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • PostgreSQL or MongoDB experience.
  • dbatools.
  • Infrastructure as Code.
  • CI/CD or database DevOps experience.
  • Delphix, Redgate, or similar tooling.
  • Azure governance and landing-zone experience.
  • Financial-services or other highly regulated industry experience.
