Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to design electrical systems for custom equipment, mobile laboratories, and modular facilities supporting biopharmaceutical, biocontainment, pharmacy, and cGMP environments.

This role applies electrical engineering principles to develop reliable, compliant equipment and facility infrastructure for global deployment. Using tools such as AutoCAD and ETAP, the Senior Electrical Engineer will create designs, specifications, calculations, and drawing packages that support fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with practical problem-solving skills and the ability to lead engineering project teams from concept through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

Custom Equipment Engineering

• Design electrical systems for custom equipment, including control panels, power distribution, and machine interfaces.
• Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and interconnect drawings.
• Size and select breakers, transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, sensors, and cabling.
• Perform load calculations, short-circuit analyses, and coordination studies.
• Ensure designs meet applicable NEC, UL, NFPA, and IEC requirements.
• Collaborate with mechanical and controls engineers to integrate electrical systems into equipment designs.
• Support fabrication and assembly teams by resolving design issues and clarifying technical documentation.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and commissioning.

Facilities & Infrastructure Engineering

• Design power distribution, lighting, grounding, and backup power systems for mobile and modular laboratories.
• Develop single-line diagrams, panel schedules, conduit layouts, and cable routing plans.
• Coordinate electrical designs with HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and process systems.
• Engineer utility connections, including shore power, generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and transfer switches.
• Incorporate applicable life sciences, cleanroom, and regulatory requirements into designs.
• Support facility layouts, equipment placement, and utility coordination.
• Assist with site installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Documentation & Standards

• Produce complete drawing packages, including schematics, layouts, installation details, and bills of materials.
• Prepare engineering specifications, calculations, and supporting documentation.
• Maintain drawing revisions and follow document control procedures.
• Apply established drafting standards and verify deliverables for accuracy and completeness before release.

Project & Customer Support

• Partner with project managers to meet schedule, budget, and performance goals.
• Coordinate with customers, vendors, and contractors throughout project execution.
• Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, installation, and start-up.
• Troubleshoot field issues and develop corrective actions.
• Lead engineering project teams with minimal supervision.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Seven to ten years of electrical engineering experience.
• Proficiency in 2D electrical design and drafting using AutoCAD or comparable software.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and nationally recognized drafting standards.
• Experience with 120V, 240V, 277V, and 480V electrical systems, including single- and three-phase power, shore and generator power, load management, and switching.
• Familiarity with 12V and 24V DC systems, including access control, fire, security, video, and Ethernet/data systems.
• Experience leading technical project teams to meet schedule, cost, and performance objectives.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Close attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to interpret technical drawings and spatial relationships.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical research.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate across engineering, production, and field teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of custom manufacturing and job shop processes.
• Familiarity with integrated Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC controls.
• PLC and Direct Digital Control (DDC) programming knowledge.
• Experience integrating electrical systems into specialty vehicles, such as high-end RVs, luxury yachts, or command and emergency response vehicles.
• Experience with international power systems.
• Hands-on electrical assembly, fabrication, or repair experience.
