The Senior Electrical Field Engineer is responsible for applying diversified knowledge of engineering and construction in broad areas of assignments and related fields. This role will be based onsite in Mojave, California, with occasional travel to ISG’s Cleveland, Ohio office throughout the year. Work requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of specialized fields, related sciences, and/or disciplines. Involves coordinating the work of design engineers and construction teams.

Essential Duties


  • Will interface with clients, construction contractors, electricians, construction managers, and other site engineering
  • May interface with vendors and equipment manufacturers for delivery schedules and installation requirements
  • Tracks construction progress and answers field questions about design
  • Familiar with other disciplines related to substation construction
  • Reviews work of the project design team
  • Performs field measurements independently 
  • Works with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to the building code is required
  • Assumes responsibility for engineering field changes and answering questions
  • Coordinates work of his/her discipline with other disciplines
  • May be asked to make recommendation and/or decisions on unusual or complicated issues
  • May prepare or review construction budgets
  • Performs and directs construction support/management on large/complex projects
  • May direct construction observation of others
  • May assist in the education and development of design staff and acts as a resource for design/construction questions

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


  • 8+ years of previous consulting or facilities engineering/design experience required with minimum of 2+ years of onsite construction experience
  • Valid Drivers’ License required
  • Must have knowledge of applicable building codes, National Electrical Code, and National Electric Safety Code
  • Must keep current on the “state of the art” in their construction specialty through review of periodicals and continuing education
  • Comfortable and experienced in coordinating with power providers and utilities
  • Strong knowledge in power equipment and substations systems
  • Familiar with overhead transmission and distribution construction
  • Solid understanding of project management fundamentals, scheduling, and constructability
  • Proficient in the use of computer for design and understand Autodesk (Revit, Navisworks) operations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the client
  • Integrity, sense of responsibility, independent judgment
  • Ability to delegate tasks and duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in the PC/windows environment with experience in e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, etc
