Senior Embedded C++/Linux Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join its Software Engineering team and report to the Director of Software Engineering.

This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated radio communication systems, embedded platforms, networking technologies, cybersecurity, and advanced research projects. The successful candidate will contribute across multiple layers of the system, including device drivers, networking, Linux, encryption, security, and voice communications.

What You’ll Do

• Develop embedded software supporting MAC (Medium Access Control) and mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) routing protocols.
• Design and implement network management software and web-based interfaces.
• Develop and integrate security protocols and encryption algorithms.
• Build audio streaming and Push-to-Talk (PTT) voice applications.
• Evaluate and improve product security, reliability, and robustness to meet regulatory and security standards, including NIST FIPS 140-3 and NIAP Common Criteria.
• Develop software used for product performance, reliability, and validation testing.
• Develop and maintain device drivers and Board Support Packages (BSPs) for ARM- and RISC-V-based platforms.
• Customize and configure Linux systems for embedded applications.
• Develop Linux scripts and system utilities.
• Troubleshoot complex embedded software, hardware, networking, and system-level issues.
• Work closely with hardware, software, systems, and research engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional embedded software development experience.
• Advanced proficiency in C++ programming. 
• Experience developing Linux kernel drivers.
• Strong understanding of embedded systems and software architecture.
• Experience debugging and developing software for embedded Linux environments.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• U.S. Citizenship is required due to U.S. government contract requirements.
• Must be able to successfully complete a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:

• Security protocols and encryption algorithms, including CNSA Suite algorithms.
• Socket programming and Internet/Ethernet networking protocols.
• MAC and networking layers in wireless communication systems.
• AMD UltraScale+ and MPSoC platforms.
• Microchip PolarFire SoC BSP development.
• IPsec (Internet Protocol Security).
• Linux interrupt service routine (ISR) development.
• Embedded networking and wireless communication systems.
• Security-focused software development and regulatory compliance.
• Automated performance, reliability, and system-level testing.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of three days onsite each week. Regular onsite days are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Compensation

$135,000–$200,000 per year
