Job Description
Senior Engineer, Geotechnical
Location: Red Dog Mine, AK, United States
Employment Type: Regular Full Time
Workplace Type: Hybrid
About Red Dog
Red Dog Operations is both the largest critical minerals mine in the United States and one of the largest zinc mines in the world. In 1982, Red Dog was developed through a partnership between Teck and the land-owner NANA, an Alaska Native corporation owned by the Iñupiat of northwest Alaska. The partnership between Teck and NANA ensures real benefits for the local Iñupiat community, while recognizing there is still more to do as we advance our commitment to sustainable practices and meaningful engagement.
Role Overview
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer provides geotechnical leadership during the execution phase of the Red Dog Mine Life Extension Project (RDO-MLE) and serves as technical lead for ground control, excavation support, monitoring, and geotechnical risk management. The role is responsible for the safe and efficient development of the box cut, portal, decline, and underground excavations through the implementation geotechnical designs, monitoring systems, construction Quality Assurance and Quality Controls (QA/QC) programs, and risk management processes.
The position is responsible for the management of geotechnical contractors and consultants, oversight of instrumentation and monitoring programs, implementation, maintenance, and update of the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP), and ensuring that all excavation and support activities are executed in accordance with the project requirements, industry best practices, and Alaska regulations.
This fly-in, fly-out role is based at Red Dog Mine and follows a two-weeks on / two-weeks off rotational schedule.
