The role:
As the Senior Engineering Manager of Workday Platform at SoFi, you will lead multiple dedicated teams of integration engineers responsible for designing, building, and supporting the core data conduits connecting our Workday ecosystem across broader financial, HR, payroll, and cloud platforms. You will partner closely with People Operations, Finance, Enterprise Engineering, Security, and external vendors to establish cross-domain technical roadmaps, uphold architectural standards, and deliver reliable data integrations at scale.
We are looking for an experienced technical leader of leaders who pairs deep Workday technical knowledge with a people-first mindset. In this role, you will foster an inclusive environment where managers and engineers thrive, remove systemic operational roadblocks, champion data integrity, and guide your department through multifaceted technical problem solving with a founder’s mindset.
What you’ll do:
Lead and mentor managers and high-performing engineering squads responsible for Workday HCM, Financial Management, Payroll, and the broader Workday technical ecosystem, acting as a leader-of-leaders to drive cross-domain execution.
Define and execute the multi-year Workday technical roadmap, enterprise architecture standards, engineering practices, and platform modernization strategy aligned with business priorities.
Translate department priorities into clear integration specifications and project roadmaps, ensuring timely delivery while managing complex dependencies across multiple business units.
Guide the design, development, and maintenance of secure, resilient, and reusable integrations using Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, APIs, and enterprise integration platforms such as MuleSoft.
Establish department-wide standards for technical design, peer reviews, automated testing, documentation, deployment, monitoring, incident management, and production support to improve reliability.
Own production support and incident management escalations for the integration landscape; guide root-cause investigations, conduct blameless post-mortems, and drive preventative enhancements across teams.
Manage strategic third-party vendor relationships and service integrations (e.g., benefits administrators, financial platforms), ensuring SLAs and strict data privacy compliance.
Drive semi-annual Workday release testing and regression cycles, proactively identifying capabilities (such as Workday Extend or Prism Analytics) that bring enterprise value.
What you’ll need:
Education & Minimum Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree + 6 Years of Experience OR Master’s Degree + 4 Years of Experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Extensive hands-on experience architecting, developing, and supporting Workday HCM, Financial Management, and Payroll, including elaborate business processes, configuration, security, reporting, and production support.
Proven experience managing managers (M3) or leading multiple high-performing engineering squads simultaneously, driving technical excellence across a broad platform.
Solid understanding of Workday architecture, platform extensibility, technical roadmaps, release management, and emerging capabilities to continuously modernize the enterprise application ecosystem.
Proficiency in Workday Studio, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Core Connectors, Workday Web Services, REST/SOAP APIs, and integration design patterns.
Experience with Workday Extend and platform extensibility capabilities to build custom applications that address multifaceted business requirements while minimizing unnecessary customization.
Familiarity with Workday’s evolving AI capabilities (e.g., Workday Illuminate) and AI-powered business process automation, identifying practical opportunities to improve productivity and streamline Finance and HR operations.
Exceptional understanding of AI security, role-based access, data privacy, human oversight, auditability, and governance requirements for deploying AI capabilities in enterprise HR/financial systems.
Experience with middleware and integration platforms such as MuleSoft, along with event-driven architecture, API management, and secure integration patterns.
Exceptional partnership skills with Finance, HR, Payroll, Security, Data, and enterprise architecture teams to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical outcomes.
Excellent communication and stakeholder alignment skills, with the ability to convey technical complexity clearly to diverse executive audiences.
Nice to have:
8+ years of hands-on Workday integration development experience, with 4+ years of direct people management experience.
Practical experience managing complex integrations with payroll providers (e.g., ADP) and financial ledgers at an enterprise scale.
Active Workday Integration Certification (e.g., Workday Studio, Core Connectors, or Integrations).
Understanding of fintech regulatory environments, SOX controls, and data security frameworks (OAuth, SAML, encryption).
