We just got a new req with Client for a IBM i/AS400 Developer. The full details are below. This is a tougher and older skillset so let's see what we can find. We can use relocation candidates.
This group manages Client's fleet application (Over-The-Road application) as part of their Voyager program - this is a legacy application 20-30 year old AS/400 application that Client uses to process gas cards to fleet customers like US Government Client, trucking companies to deliver mail or other products for the bank.
The application is relatively stable - small enhancements need to be made as business requests come in, but the existing application is largely "keeping the lights on"
Troubleshooting issues as they arise - common issues like file transfer failures, authorization failures, batch failures.
Application is a large monolith, integrates with 1 API, an MQ, and just receives data through the self-contained AS/400 database. Some SQL skills would be helpful to troubleshoot data issues, but not a large part of the role.
They are in the process of modernizing this application and migrating to a Java/Spring Boot based microservices application - this role will help analyze and extract the business logic embedded in the RPG code and front-ends and participate in modernization efforts. Has a Product Manager and Java Engineers working on the modernized application, but they are not able to understand the RPG code.
Java/Spring Boot experience is nice to have but not a hard requirement.
RPG programming experience is core requirement - both free- and fixed-formats are in use, there are UIs and business logic written into the application.
New code changes are all promoted through CI/CD pipelines - Gitlab and ARCAD. Would be very nice to have/make a profile stand out if they had DevOps and CI/CD experience - would not be expected to build any pipelines, just deploy their code.
May be some on-call need for production support, but doesn't anticipate it being common.
Requirements:
AS/400
RPG programming
Ability to extract business logic and (green screen) user interface components from RPG code to participate in modernization conversations
Basic SQL
Nice to Have: CI/CD (Gitlab and ARCAD - this will help get the win), Java, Spring Boot
