Amazon Robotics doesn"t just build robots - we manufacture the future of fulfillment. At our facilities in the greater Boston area, ideas move from whiteboard to production floor at a pace most companies can"t match. Our manipulation systems - robotic arms, grasping technologies, and autonomous pick-and-place solutions - are among the most complex and rapidly evolving products in our portfolio. And they need someone who can make the impossible plannable.

We are seeking a Sr. Inventory and Manufacturing Planner to own inventory strategy, configuration management, and production planning for our manipulation robotic systems at BOS27/BOS35. You will build the planning and inventory control infrastructure for systems that are actively scaling from early development to full production. This role requires deep expertise in manufacturing planning, the judgment to make high-impact decisions in ambiguous environments, and the technical credibility to influence engineering and operations partners.

You will develop inventory control policies, own the full lifecycle of engineering and manufacturing change orders, build MBOMs, create finite production schedules, and release work orders. You"ll drive inventory accuracy, eliminate excess and obsolete material, and ensure that when engineering says "ready to build," manufacturing actually can. We"re looking for a seasoned professional who has built these capabilities before and knows what good looks like - someone who brings proven frameworks, adapts them to new environments, and delivers results across cross-functional boundaries.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and enforce inventory control policies and procedures; drive accuracy through cycle count programs, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Optimize inventory levels and reduce E&O through proactive lifecycle management, disposition strategies, and demand-aligned replenishment
  • Develop new inventory strategies that scale with program growth and evolving manufacturing requirements
  • Own Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Manufacturing Change Orders (MCOs) across supported programs
  • Build and maintain Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOMs) with full configuration accuracy and traceability
  • Set up and maintain Bills of Distribution and Sourcing Rules; partner with engineering on master data, routings, and resource rates
  • Create finite capacity production schedules considering equipment, labor, and material constraints
  • Develop build schedules and release work orders through their complete lifecycle, with emphasis on early NPI programs
  • Develop and maintain short-term and medium-term capacity models; identify and resolve bottlenecks through constraint analysis
  • Perform sequence optimization to minimize changeovers and maximize manufacturing throughput
  • Build KPI dashboards to track inventory and planning performance; use data to drive decisions
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and logistics on supply plan execution

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
