Our client is a trusted Prime Contractor to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), delivering advanced technology-enabled solutions across engineering, manufacturing, product quality, and supply chain disciplines. As a result of continued growth, they are looking for a Senior IoT / IIoT Solutions Architect to join their team.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior IoT / IIoT Solutions Architect to lead the architecture, design, and technical strategy for connected industrial environments, smart manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
This role will bridge OT, IT, IoT, cloud, data, automation, and manufacturing systems to develop scalable digital-factory solutions that improve operational visibility, productivity, quality, reliability, and decision-making.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience designing enterprise-scale Industrial IoT and Digital Factory architectures, integrating industrial equipment and automation systems with modern data and cloud platforms, and translating business and manufacturing requirements into secure, scalable technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead IoT/IIoT, Industry 4.0, and Digital Factory architecture strategies and roadmaps.
- Design end-to-end architectures spanning sensors, PLCs, SCADA, DCS, MES, historians, edge computing, industrial networks, cloud platforms, APIs, data platforms, and enterprise applications.
- Develop reference architectures, solution blueprints, technology standards, and architecture patterns for smart manufacturing.
- Lead OT/IT convergence initiatives and establish scalable integration patterns between manufacturing operations and enterprise systems.
- Evaluate and recommend IoT, edge, cloud, data, analytics, and industrial automation technologies.
- Architect secure industrial connectivity and data flows from the plant floor to edge and cloud environments.
- Partner with manufacturing, engineering, operations, IT, cybersecurity, data, and business teams to define requirements and technical solutions.
- Lead architecture reviews and provide technical direction to engineers, developers, automation specialists, and implementation teams.
- Develop solutions for real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, digital quality, OEE, asset performance, energy optimization, traceability, and operational intelligence.
- Establish standards for device connectivity, data modeling, event processing, APIs, integration, identity, security, and observability.
- Support development of digital twins, AI/ML-enabled manufacturing solutions, advanced analytics, and data-driven operational applications.
- Ensure solutions are designed for scalability, availability, maintainability, interoperability, and cybersecurity.
- Create architecture documentation, diagrams, technical specifications, technology assessments, and implementation roadmaps.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple plants, manufacturing sites, or enterprise programs.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation, Manufacturing Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in IoT, IIoT, industrial automation, manufacturing technology, enterprise architecture, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise or plant-level IoT/IIoT solutions.
- Strong understanding of both OT and IT environments and the ability to architect solutions across both domains.
- Experience with cloud, edge computing, industrial connectivity, data integration, and enterprise systems.
- Strong architecture, systems-integration, and technical leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both engineering/technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Experience leading architecture decisions across complex, multi-system environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry 4.0 / Smart Factory transformation experience.
- Experience with multi-site or global manufacturing environments.
- Experience integrating MES, SCADA, PLCs, historians, ERP, cloud, and enterprise data platforms.
- Knowledge of ISA-95, ISA-88, IEC 62443, NIST, or related industrial standards.
- Cloud architecture certification such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- TOGAF or other enterprise architecture certification.
- Experience with digital twins, AI/ML, advanced analytics, or computer vision in manufacturing.
- Experience developing enterprise IoT reference architectures and technology standards.
