The next great challenge is coming:
We are looking for an experienced Level Designer who will take ownership of level design on a third-person action title that blends high-speed traversal, acrobatic movement, and roguelite skill progression across an open world. Movement is the heart of the game, players chain abilities together, upgrade their kit from run to run, and cover ground fast. The levels have to hold up to that.
You would be joining a compact, senior team working in Unity, and the role suits someone with an entrepreneurial mindset. You will scope your own work, make decisions without waiting for someone to hand them to you, and have real input into the level design direction. The scope occasionally reaches beyond strict Level Design, but this is a Level Design role first and foremost.
Superpowers you have:
- 5+ years of professional Level Design experience, with at least one shipped title.
- Strong grasp of movement-driven design - pacing, spatial readability, and how layout supports a fast, expressive traversal kit.
- Hands-on proficiency with Unity: ProBuilder or equivalent blockout workflow, prefabs, terrain, and performance-aware layout practices.
- Comfortable owning a feature area with minimal direction and driving it to a shippable state.
- Entrepreneurial mindset - you spot what the project needs, propose it, and then go build it.
- Willingness to step into adjacent disciplines when the project calls for it, without losing focus on Level Design.
- Ability to prototype and script simple gameplay logic in Unity (C# or visual scripting).
- Strong written and spoken English, and an easy person to work alongside
You're a rockstar if you have:
- Background in action-platformers, character-action games, or roguelites.
- Experience designing open or semi-open worlds with non-linear routing.
- Environment art sensibility - set dressing, composition, and visual landmarking for navigation.
- Experience building custom level tools or editor utilities.
- Shipped on a small team where you owned more than your job title.
Becoming part of Room 8 Group, you will:
- Own level design end to end - from macro layout and world flow through greybox, iteration, and final playable state.
- Design spaces that stay readable at high speed - clear sightlines, obvious traversal cues, and enough room to recover from a mistake.
- Build traversal-first layouts around the movement kit - momentum lines, verticality, air routes, and rewarding optional paths for skilled players.
- Tune progression pacing across a run: where skill upgrades land, how encounter density escalates, and how the world opens up as the player's kit grows.
- Prototype quickly in Unity, playtest constantly, and iterate on your own work based on what the playtests actually show.
- Set the level design standard for the project and keep the documentation light - enough for the team to work from, not more.
- Work directly with Art, Engineering, and Game Design, day to day and without much process in between.
- Occasionally pick up adjacent work: environment blockout and set dressing, encounter and systems design, and light Unity scripting or level tooling.
