Job DescriptionAmeriprise Financial has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager of Accounting to lead the team responsible for investment portfolio accounting and controls across multiple businesses and product lines. This role partners closely with Finance and business leaders to develop and maintain accounting practices aligned with GAAP and regulatory requirements, including SEC and insurance standards, while ensuring the integrity of financial data, feeds, and processes. The Senior Manager will bring a strong analytical mindset, leveraging multiple business sources and complex, customized reporting to deliver insight, strengthen controls, and support informed decision‑making in a highly regulated financial services environment.Key ResponsibilitiesManage multiple relationships across the organization and provide accounting and reporting expertise to finance partners. Participate as an accounting subject matter expert on initiatives involving investment accounting. Review, analyze, and resolve complex issues in accounting for investments and provide oversight to staff. Support and design accounting processes driven by business changes.Approve journal entries, controls and balance sheet reconciliations and work arounds for non-automated processes. Provide oversight to ensure integrity in financial records from business and finance systems leverage to create accounting journal entries into the general ledger.Analyzes variances and prepares explanations to Finance leadership. Partners with Treasury, Tax, and External Reporting on transactions with significant accounting and/or reporting implications.Maintain strong control environment to ensure accuracy of accounting results on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Review financial disclosures related to investments within 10K, 10Q, regulatory reports and other financial reports.Coordinate with external auditors on a regular basis to complete audit and control testing procedures.Lead process improvement to ensure that integrity, control and optimal efficiency are established while minimizing financial risks. Develop and implement process improvement initiatives that support the department goals and service levels.Provide people and organizational leadership. Provide feedback and coaching to employees and may provide work direction outside direct team and with business partners.Required QualificationsBachelors degree (or equivalent) in Accounting or related field7+ years of experience in accountingLeadership experience, direct or indirect, and ability to directly manage othersStrong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficient with Excel and ability to apply other technology to create efficient processesPreferred QualificationsAbility to handle changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and work within tight time frames and deadlinesAbility to communicate accounting concepts to business/finance partners and external auditorsAbility to influence the business and senior leaders to build well‑controlled processes and elevate issues for resolutionDeep understanding of the end‑to‑end process flows and controls across the compensation and benefit plans, as well as, the related systems.In-Office CollaborationWe are a client‑centric, relationship‑based business. We have a pay‑for‑performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long‑term incentives depending on the role.
