What you'll do:

We're excited to announce a dynamic opportunity for a Senior Manager of Internal Communications to join our growing team! This role offers the flexibility and convenience of fully remote work, allowing you to contribute from anywhere in the United States.

As Senior Internal Communications Manager within Corporate Communications, you will connect employees to Viasat's strategy and culture across Engineering, VGS, and corporate functions. Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, you will convert complex priorities into effective communication strategies. Additionally, you will lead and mentor junior staff, oversee portfolio deliverables, and autonomously drive communications strategy, governance, and continuous improvement.

The day-to-day:

Strategic Communications & Business Partnership

  • Own the internal communications strategy and roadmap for Engineering, VGS, and other assigned business functions, ensuring communication priorities are aligned with business and organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior executives and functional leaders, providing counsel on complex, sensitive, and high-impact organizational communications.
  • Translate complex technical, operational, and business priorities into clear communications strategies that improve employee understanding and organizational alignment.
  • Anticipate communications needs, risks, and opportunities and proactively recommend strategies and approaches to leadership.
  • Lead communications strategy for major business initiatives, organizational changes, leadership priorities, and other complex programs.
  • Determine the appropriate communications approach, audience, timing, sequencing, and channels based on business objectives and stakeholder needs.
  • Balance competing communications needs and recommend where team resources should be focused to achieve the greatest organizational impact.

People & Team Leadership

  • Directly supervise and develop junior communications staff, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, prioritization, performance feedback, and career development support.
  • Set clear priorities, goals, expectations, and development plans aligned with business needs and employee growth.
  • Delegate communications projects and deliverables while maintaining accountability for quality, consistency, timeliness, and business outcomes.
  • Provide strategic direction and review communications strategies, messaging, and deliverables developed by the junior team member.
  • Coach the junior team member to progressively strengthen strategic communications capabilities, business acumen, stakeholder management, and independent ownership.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment focused on accountability, responsiveness, continuous improvement, and development.

Executive Communications & Organizational Alignment

  • Partner with executives and functional leaders to develop communications strategies that build employee understanding, trust, transparency, and connection to business priorities.
  • Advise leaders on messaging, stakeholder considerations, communications risks, sequencing, and employee engagement approaches.
  • Lead the development of executive communications, including leadership presentations, talking points, videos, employee updates, and other strategic communications.
  • Coach leaders on effective communication practices and approaches for reaching and engaging diverse employee audiences.
  • Ensure leadership communications reinforce company strategy, culture, organizational priorities, and OKRs.

Communications Operations & Governance

  • Provide leadership for internal communications operations, governance, and enterprise communications practices, ensuring consistent and effective delivery across the organization.
  • Establish and continuously improve communications standards, workflows, editorial practices, processes, and channel strategies.
  • Oversee enterprise communications channels, including intranet platforms, email communications, and other employee communications tools.
  • Establish and manage editorial planning and communications calendars that align resources, messaging, and timing with business priorities.
  • Set expectations for communications quality, audience experience, channel use, and editorial consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve communications tools, and strengthen the employee communications experience.

Measurement & Organizational Impact

  • Establish measures of communications effectiveness that assess audience engagement, message comprehension, and organizational impact.
  • Use employee feedback, communications analytics, and organizational insights to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor communications and engagement trends and translate findings into actionable recommendations for leaders.
  • Provide leadership with insights on communications performance, audience needs, emerging challenges, and opportunities.
  • Use measurement and feedback to continuously improve communications strategies, channels, and practices.
What you'll need:
  • 10+ years of experience in internal or corporate communications, with experience supporting complex, matrixed organizations; experience within government, defense, or another highly regulated business environment preferred.
  • 3+ years of direct people management experience, including responsibility for setting priorities, providing performance feedback, developing talent, and managing team workflows.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, Marketing, Public Relations, English, Journalism, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leaders and influence decisions through communications expertise and business judgment.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand complex operational, technical, and organizational topics and translate them into effective communications strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high level of autonomy, make sound decisions, balance competing priorities, and take accountability for outcomes.
  • Experience leading communications for complex organizational initiatives and change.
