Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences and supports all of our team members.What You'll Do Design a wide array of structural components and integration of flight-critical electromechanical actuation systems from concept through experimental flight testingDesign mechanisms and own kinematic layouts for flight control systemsDesign detailed metallic parts and assemblies to support actuation and propulsion integrationOwn the prototype development process; requirements, design, BOM, procurement, assembly, test, etc.Perform initial structural analysis and hand calculations to verify component margins, load paths, and interface requirementsInterface with suppliers to select COTS solutions where appropriate (mounts, fasteners, brackets, etc.)Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specificationsSupport requirements development and documentationCollaborate with our multi-disciplinary engineering teamWhat You Need 5+ years of engineering experienceBachelor's degree in Mechanical EngineeringExposure to integrating or designing flight critical systemsProficient in CAD (Solidworks, NX, etc.) - NX preferredAbility to manage CAD and complex assemblies in Team CenterProficient in load analysis, free body diagrams, and FEAExperience designing complex metallic parts and weldmentsFluent in GD&T and creating manufacturing drawingsFamiliarity with aerospace hardware standardsHands-on experience in multiple technical fields especially those related to carbon composite and metallic structuresAbility to communicate effectively and clearlyBonus Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)Knowledge of, and experience within, electric powertrain systems or aerospace systemsFamiliarity with simscapeExperience designing mechanisms for flight control systemsThorough understanding of electro-mechanical actuatorsThorough understanding of engineering product development including design phases, manufacturing processes and global supply chain managementFamiliarization with Atlassian Jira and Confluence for task management and collaborative documentationExperience supporting vehicle development from concept/prototype aircraft phase through certification and mass productionPart 23 Certification Experience and/or experience working with ARP4754AAt Archer, we aim to attract, retain, and motivate talent with the skills and leadership needed to grow our business.
