Senior Mechanical Engineer – Healthcare

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in San Francisco or Sacramento, California. The ideal candidate will have experience working for an engineering consulting firm, particularly on healthcare projects, along with strong technical, project management, and leadership skills.

This role involves designing mechanical systems for inpatient and outpatient healthcare facilities throughout all project phases. Experience in mission-critical facilities, science and technology, healthcare, and project management is a plus.

Job Responsibilities

• Represent the firm in interactions with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members.

• Lead mechanical design for large-scale projects, including preparing reports, specifications, and technical documentation.

• Provide consulting services, including due diligence reports, gap analyses, and feasibility studies.

• Develop sustainable mechanical engineering solutions, including conceptual designs and detailed drawings.

• Oversee drawing production to ensure compliance with client requirements and design standards.

• Coordinate with design teams, owners, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.

• Establish project design standards, specifications, and criteria.

• Prepare proposals and administer client contracts, including Additional Services Agreements.

• Participate in business development, industry organizations, and client presentations.

• Establish project budgets and schedules.

• Participate in quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of completed work.

• Manage staff resources and conduct performance reviews.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.

• Minimum of 8 years of experience working in an engineering consulting firm.

• At least 3 years of supervisory and/or project management experience.

• Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering — required.

• LEED AP accreditation — highly preferred.

• Strong ability to coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and telecommunications systems.

• Understanding of constructability, cost considerations, and multidisciplinary design coordination.

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and experience with Revit.

• Ability to design mechanical systems for various building types, including commercial, mixed-use, mission-critical, life sciences, and research and development (R&D) facilities.
