Job Description

Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer – Nuclear Operations

Westinghouse Electric Company | Rock Hill, SC

Imagine starting your day reviewing overnight plant data, prioritizing design and analysis tasks, and collaborating with a cross‑functional team that powers clean energy across the globe. At Westinghouse, you’ll join an innovative community that values diversity of thought and experience while advancing safe, reliable nuclear solutions.

Your day in this role

Within our Operating Plants Mechanical Systems group, you’ll move between analysis, design, and technical problem‑solving. Morning might find you building code‑compliant calculations; afternoon could include presenting engineering justifications to a customer or coordinating with electrical and civil/structural peers. You’ll balance scope, budget, and schedule as you deliver solutions that meet ASME and ANSI standards.

What you’ll tackle

  • Design, analyze, and evaluate mechanical systems with advanced engineering software, collaborating within a multi‑discipline team.
  • Apply engineering principles and codes/standards (including ASME and ANSI) to ensure robust, compliant solutions.
  • Develop calculations and author reports that meet ASME Section III and other international code requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for operating nuclear plants and new nuclear projects (AP1000, eVinci) as well as fuel fabrication facilities.
  • Engage customers and vendors to present technical materials and defend design decisions.
  • Partner across disciplines (electrical, civil/structural) and contribute on internal and external project teams.
  • Deliver within established scope, cost, and schedule parameters.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical (preferred), Civil, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Engineering‑in‑Training (EIT) license and Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 5–10 years of engineering experience.
  • Background in the power industry (e.g., nuclear power plant experience).

Compensation

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, dependent on experience, qualifications, and skills, is estimated to be $106,500 to $127,800 per year.
