• Pay Rate: $55.00 $75.00 / Hour (USD)
• Travel Requirements: Approximately 5 10% travel; typical field visits last around 3 days total (1 travel day, 1 2 days onsite). Some projects may offer longer-term field assignment opportunities.

Job Summary

This role supports modularized piping design projects while maintaining full compliance with all client safety requirements. This Houston-based office assignment offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of piping design deliverables, with approximately 95% of the work performed in the office and limited travel to local or U.S. job sites. The designer will plan and prepare project documents, evaluate design problems, develop layout solutions, and support the successful execution of modularized piping design work. The successful candidate will use independent judgment to develop, recommend, and prepare preliminary and final piping design layouts. Responsibilities include producing complete piping deliverables from verbal or written direction provided by a project manager or project piping lead, while applying applicable standards, procedures, guidelines, design principles, and industry best practices. The designer will coordinate design and detailing activities across assigned projects, collaborate with other disciplines, the client's India-based design team (BMI), clients, service suppliers, vendors, and outside personnel, and help identify constructability considerations throughout the design phase.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare project documents for modularized piping design projects
• Evaluate design problems and develop layout solutions
• Use independent judgment to develop, recommend, and prepare preliminary and final piping design layouts
• Produce complete piping deliverables from verbal or written direction provided by a project manager or project piping lead, while applying applicable standards, procedures, guidelines, design principles, and industry best practices
• Coordinate design and detailing activities across assigned projects
• Collaborate with other disciplines, clients, service suppliers, vendors, and outside personnel
• Help identify constructability considerations throughout the design phase

Required Skills

• Minimum of three years of recent experience using SmartPlant SP3D (3D) software to model equipment and piping systems
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills

• Ability to produce 2D drawings in AutoCAD format (highly preferred)
• Recent experience using LFM Server software to view laser scan data
• Prior consulting engineering experience
• Experience collaborating with global high-value engineering offices
• Current TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)

Education Requirements

• Associate or bachelor's degree in drafting technology or a related field preferred; a degree is not required

Required Experience

• Candidates typically bring 10 to 20 years of progressive layout, design, and detailing experience; strong candidates with fewer years of experience may also be considered

Important Notes

• A TWIC Card or BasicPlus / Annual Safety Certification is often needed to access Houston-area industrial and piping facilities. Candidates lacking either credential may still be considered; they would need to obtain their TWIC card upon starting (facilitated by the client).
• This is primarily a design role with limited client relationship management responsibilities; some client exposure is expected.
