    Job Description

    Introduction to the role

ASML Wilton is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join the Wilton Factory Optics team with primary ownership of functional testing and inspection processes. This role is responsible for the development, stabilization, and ongoing performance of automated and manual functional testing and inspection processes supporting optical manufacturing.

The Senior Process Engineer will directly contribute to output, yield, and quality targets, including First Pass Yield (FPY), by establishing stable, predictable, and well-controlled processes.

Success in this role requires strong technical and analytical skills, a proactive engineering mindset, and the ability to anticipate production risks before they impact performance. The engineer will drive structured 6P readiness, lead root cause analysis (RCA), and continuously evaluate new technologies and process improvements that strengthen long-term process control.

    Role and responsibilities

The Senior Process Engineer will serve as a technical leader within Wilton Factory Optics, with end-to-end ownership of functional testing and inspection processes. Responsibilities include:

    • Define and optimize functional testing and inspection processes, parameters, tooling, fixturing, and measurement methods.
    • Ensure measurement stability and consistent testing and inspection results across equipment, operators, and shifts.
    • Identify and control environmental, tooling, fixturing, and equipment factors that influence functional testing and inspection output.
    • Lead the introduction and qualification of new fixtures, tools, software, manual processes, and equipment upgrades.
    • Analyze functional testing and inspection data and translate findings into actionable process improvements.
    • Establish process windows, capability targets, and long-term monitoring strategies.
    • Use JMP, Minitab, or equivalent statistical tools to identify variation, drift, and chronic process stability risks.
    • Maintain process specifications, work instructions, and standard work to ensure processes are robust, documented, and repeatable.
    • Partner closely with production technicians, supervisors, cross-factory teams, Quality, Equipment Engineering, and Maintenance to balance immediate production needs with long-term process improvements.
    • Identify and eliminate sources of variation that contribute to rework, FPY loss, and reduced yield.
    • Lead structured RCA using statistical and analytical methods and ensure corrective actions are verified, implemented, and sustainable.
    • Own 6P readiness for process, material, and equipment changes.
    • Proactively evaluate new functional testing and inspection process control methods, advanced testing and inspection tools, next-generation technologies, and equipment or software capabilities that improve stability, predictability, and throughput.

    Education and experience

    • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical, Optical, Materials, or related engineering field.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in optical fabrication and functional testing and inspection.
    • Experience in tooling mechanics, inspection methods, functional testing methods, and process development.
    • Demonstrated ability in structured problem solving, data analysis, RCA, and process improvement.

    Skills

    • Strong understanding of functional testing and inspection best practices and tooling mechanics for accurate measurements.
    • Proficiency with manual and automated functional testing and inspection tools.
    • Proficiency with spectrometry equipment required.
    • Proficiency with electrical, pressure, and hardness testing equipment highly desired.
    • Experience using JMP, Minitab, or equivalent statistical software.
    • Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership skills in a production environment.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities under time-sensitive conditions.
    • Demonstrated capability in 6P readiness, structured RCA, and verification-driven corrective action.

    Other information

    • Work includes time on the fabrication floor, interaction with functional testing and inspection equipment, and periods of standing or walking.
    • The role may require lifting materials up to 35 pounds.
    • Visual acuity for inspection tasks is required.
    • The work environment includes exposure to noise, vibration, and manufacturing equipment while wearing appropriate PPE.
