Description

Senior Product Manager - OMAX Waterjet

Hypertherm Associates is seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead both New Product Introduction (NPI) and Full Lifecycle Management for a part of our waterjet portfolio-from strategic market planning to in‑market performance of your assigned products. You will be the business owner for a critical portion of the OMAX waterjet portfolio, shaping strategy, understanding critical market dynamics and needs, defining user‑centered product requirements, partnering closely with engineering, regional commercial teams, customers, and channel partners during development, launch and lifecycle in the market, ensuring we deliver differentiated solutions that solve high‑value customer problems.

This is a high‑impact role in a technically sophisticated, global hardware and software business serving demanding industrial environments.

As a Senior Product Manager in the OMAX waterjet product group, your role will include:

Strategic Product Leadership

  • Serve as the business owner for your assigned portfolio, accountable for product strategy, in-market performance, and long-term profitability

  • Develop and maintain the product line strategy, business cases, and long‑range product roadmaps

  • Define segment opportunities using market analysis, customer research, competitive insights, and financial modeling

  • Own product-line inputs to the long-range plan (LRP) and annual operating plan (AOP), ensuring alignment with growth and profitability objectives

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Lead cross‑functional NPI teams from early concept through commercialization in both core and growth market spaces

  • Develop product requirements, value propositions, and user experience needs, grounded in Voice of Customer (VOC) and User-Centered Design (UCD) practices

  • Partner with engineering and operations on concept tradeoffs, feasibility, and technical architecture

  • Drive pricing strategy, launch plans, and early market validation/"post-launch listening"

Lifecycle and Portfolio Management

  • Drive portfolio decisions to improve revenue, gross margin, and overall portfolio performance, including pricing, cost, and mix optimization. Be accountable for delivering financial outcomes aligned with business plans.

  • Own in‑market products from launch through end of life, including profitability, quality, market share, customer satisfaction and eventual product obsolescence and support.

  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for cost reduction, performance enhancements, and line extensions.

  • Develop core content for targeted product messaging, product training, and sales enablement tools.

  • Monitor product performance and use financial and margin analysis to drive decisions and corrective actions

  • Partner deeply with regional commercial teams to manage product success and drive improvement programs where necessary

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, sales, service, central and regional marketing, operations, quality, technical publications, and training.

  • Engage with technical service and finance to execute strategies and achieve business goals.

  • Enable commercial teams to win in the market through product positioning, competitive differentiation, and market insights.

  • Interact with channel partners for strategic direction, near-term opportunities and in-market performance.

  • Lead regular portfolio reviews and present strategy, financial performance, risks, and key decisions to executive leadership

Who you are and the experience you bring:

  • BS/BA in Marketing, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • 7-10 years of product management experience (or equivalent role in product strategy, engineering, marketing, sales, or business leadership).

  • Demonstrated capability managing technical products or complex systems.

  • Strong business acumen: pricing, financial modeling, forecasting, and business case creation.

  • Experience collaborating in a matrixed, cross‑functional environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead without authority and drive alignment across engineering, operations, and commercial teams.

  • Skilled in user‑centered design and translating customer needs into product requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills and a structured, analytical approach to problem solving.

  • The following competencies:

  • Impact and Influence - drive urgency to and decisions with teams inside and outside of the company

  • Focus on the customer - be the representative of the customer in strategy, product development and lifecycle product management of assigned products

  • External awareness - fully incorporate external market conditions, technology trends, competitive pressures and macroeconomic effects

  • Strategic thinking - drive decisions and action plans that are biased to supporting strategic priorities, thinking through the 2nd and 3rd order implications

Preferred experience that differentiates you:

  • Background in industrial manufacturing, industrial equipment, robotics, automation, automotive, machining, or other technical domains.

  • Direct experience with cloud-connected embedded systems, hardware, capital equipment, or electro‑mechanical systems.

  • Engineering or technical degree.

  • MBA or advanced business training.

  • Familiarity with VOC, design thinking, and lean product development methodologies.
