Job Description

Overview

Every request Microsoft 365 serves depends on the network beneath it - a global fabric spanning every geography Microsoft operates in, serving hundreds of millions of people. As Microsoft 365 grows and its infrastructure continues to move toward an Azure-native footprint, the network has to evolve with it: toward explicit, identity-aware connectivity, stronger regional isolation, and smaller failure domains. Were looking for a Senior Product Manager to own network connectivity strategy for the platform. That evolution is where you would start, and the charter continues well past it. You will shape long-term architecture direction with the teams that own and depend on the network. This is an AI-first product management role. AI is changing what the PM role consists of, and that change is accelerating. We expect someone who already works this way, or is eager to, and who brings the team with them. This role requires on-call for the platform. The network sits on the critical path for Microsoft 365, and product management here comes with real operational ownership - including occasional out-of-hours engagement during live incidents. This position is based in Redmond, Washington and requires the employee be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.Microsofts mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy for network connectivity and its evolution across the platform, and turn that direction into a roadmap teams can execute.
  • Drive the move to an explicit, regionalized, policy-enforced connectivity model - including the migration sequencing, exception governance, and dependency burn-down that make it real.
  • Take on high-impact problems across the charter, including scalability, resiliency, segmentation and isolation, capacity, latency, and platform transitions, and drive them to resolution.
  • Work problems end-to-end: own the outcome even when every step of the work belongs to someone else.
  • Model the tradeoffs before committing investment, and apply judgment where the model runs out.
  • Weigh security, reliability, performance, and cost against each other, and prioritize multi-year platform investments with the teams that fund and build them.
  • Keep failure domains contained and recovery paths intact.Participate in the on-call rotation - help scope and triage live incidents, and turn what you learn from them into root-cause fixes and roadmap priorities.
  • Set success metrics, OKRs (Objectives and Key Results), and KPIs (key performance indicators), and shape investment priorities with leadership.
  • Explain complex tradeoffs to executives in a way that leads to decisions.
  • Mentor other product managers and move the team toward better, AI-forward ways of working.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree AND 5+ years experience in product management and driving a large-scale infrastructure migration or network transition for large scale distributed systems

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Decision Making - The ability to make decisions in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. This includes the ability to define, diagnose, and determine an appropriate resolution, recommendation, or decision while considering alternatives and factors (e.g., resources, costs, tradeoffs).

  • Influence Others - The ability to garner support for initiatives by gaining the respect of others and inspiring trust and confidence.

  • Negotiation - The ability to achieve mutually satisfying agreements in negotiations with others by listening to their objectives, acting as the companys representative to effectively communicate the companys objective, and seeking common ground and collaborative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical depth in networking and large-scale distributed systems - enough to reason with architects about how traffic moves, how the network fails, and what it costs; to hold your own in a live incident; and to explain those tradeoffs clearly to any audience.
  • Includes cloud networking - virtual networks and peering, software-defined networking, address management, and NAT - and how their limits behave at fleet scale.
  • Experience driving a large-scale infrastructure migration or network transition on a live, high-availability service - including sequencing, rollback, and dependency burn-down.
  • Fluency with AI-forward ways of working (agents, automation, evaluation sets), or a demonstrated ability to adopt new tooling quickly.
  • Working knowledge of Layer-7 routing, reverse proxies, or front-door/CDN-class infrastructure.
  • Zero-trust and network security fundamentals - segmentation, identity-based authorization, mutual TLS, and policy enforcement.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange, Azure infrastructure, or other large multi-tenant platforms - helpful but not required; the platform specifics can be learned.
