    Description

It is no secret that Amazon relies on its technology to deliver millions of packages every day to its customers - on time, with low cost. The Middle Mile technology organization, builds complex software solutions that work across our vendors, warehouses and carriers to optimize both time & cost of getting the packages delivered. Our services already handle thousands of requests per second, make business decisions impacting billions of dollars a year, integrate with a network of small and large carriers, owner operators and drivers worldwide, manage business rules for millions of unique products, and improve ordering and delivery experience for millions of online shoppers. That said, this remains a fast growing business and our technical journey has only started. An example of a recent innovation from this group is AmazonFlex (flex.amazon.com) that enables crowdsourced last mile delivery. With rapid expansion into new geographies, innovations in supply chain, unique delivery models for products ranging from AmazonFresh groceries, ultra-fast Prime Now deliveries to big-screen TV's, increasingly complex transportation network, and growing number of shipments worldwide, we see a brand new opportunity to fundamentally change the way people get the stuff they need, and make a big impact by cutting billions of dollars of transportation costs from the ecosystem. Our mission is to build the most efficient and optimal transportation solution on the planet, using our technology and engineering muscle as our biggest advantage. We aim to leverage technologies in big data, machine learning, and optimization techniques, and operate high volume, low latency, and high availability services. Oh, and we will need great leaders too (this is where you come in … read on)

As a member of this collaborative team, you will have an opportunity to make an impact in Amazon Logistics and work with a group of talented program managers, product managers, research scientists, software developers, and business stakeholders to design the Amazon network of the future.

As a Sr. Product Manager, you will operate at the crossroads of multiple complex Amazon systems, getting global visibility of how Amazon moves inventory across out network and serves our customers. Specifically, this role will be responsible for driving the delivery of technology features that enable our real time routing technology. This role will also own critical efficiency metrics that measure how well we utilize our capacity, where we have opportunities to expand, and how can we better manager our P&L. As a business owner you will be expected to monitor weekly metrics and callouts, direct and occasionally perform deep dives, generate product artifacts (vision and strategy documents, BRD, Launch Plans), and contribute to monthly business reviews with VPs.

The successful candidate will be voraciously curious about Amazon's transportation operations and how data consumed and produced by our systems can be used to improve outcomes and lower costs. Your responsibility is to expose and measure the current performance of our systems, find and quantify opportunities for improvement, and dive deep into existing algorithms to explain unexpected performance. We are looking for innovators to be a sophisticated user of data querying tools, and an expert at synthesizing and communicating insights and recommendations to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication.

    Key job responsibilities

    1. Support the technology products for trailer management to optimize for cost and automation

    2. End-to-end ownership of requirements gathering, documentation, planning, and implementation of cost-effective solutions for Amazon transportation network

    3. Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally across multiple teams in operations, technology and planning to define strategic roadmaps while keeping the impact of the solution to all stakeholders in mind

    4. Creating and implementing data driven improvements to Amazon"s transportation network that deliver flexible and efficient products for our customers

    5. Designing and implementing feedback mechanisms to drive performance and cost improvement in processes

    6. Ability to deep dive and do root-cause analysis using data, and create metrics-driven, actionable, and sustainable solutions for the future

    7. Monitor KPI's across nodes and analyze their drivers to determine the level and type of engagement required based on the risk to customer experience and utilization of technology

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
