The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science (Rosenstiel) invites applications for a full-time Senior Research Associate I position. We seek a motivated individual to join our Ocean Carbon Cycle group to support oceanographic fieldwork, laboratory analyses, instrument maintenance, data processing, and reporting in support of ocean carbon and climate research. This position is physically stationed at the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystems Division in Miami, FL.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
The candidate will work alongside established scientists in the group while carrying out tasks related to the acquisition and analysis of biogeochemical and inorganic carbon data, maintenance and upgrading of analytical systems, and scientific reporting. Specific duties include:
Overseeing lab activities for the ocean biogeochemistry group Operate state-of-the-art instrumentation to measure carbonate parameters in lab and during extended cruises (ranging from 25 to 60 days at sea) and on site in the lab. Help install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain state of the art chemical and oceanographic instrumentation both in the laboratory and in the field. Data processing, quality control documentation including internal data reports, and timely submission of biogeochemical datasets and metadata to national and international data repositories.
