Position: Senior SAP Technical Architect (SAP SuccessFactors)
Assignment: Long-term Contract
Location: Washington, DC (once a quarter for PI meetings)

Position Overview
Amtrak is seeking an experienced Senior SAP Technical Architect / Technical Delivery Lead to provide technical leadership, architecture oversight, and delivery ownership across multiple HR technology projects. This individual will replace an existing Senior Technical Lead and be responsible for systems analysis, solution design, development, integration enhancements, maintenance, and support across SAP SuccessFactors, SAP HCM, payroll applications, and third-party systems.
The successful candidate must combine strong SAP technical expertise with proven experience leading developers, functional leads, and integration teams. This role requires someone who can make critical technical decisions, manage matrixed resources, oversee multiple simultaneous projects, and occasionally serve as the overall project leader.
 
Key Responsibilities
1. SAP Technical Architecture & Solution Design

• Lead technical architecture, solution design, and systems analysis for SAP HR applications.
• Provide technical direction across SAP SuccessFactors, SAP HCM, payroll, and integrated third-party systems.
• Make architectural and technical decisions regarding application development, integrations, and enhancements.
• Ensure technical solutions align with business requirements and organizational objectives.
• Oversee ongoing application maintenance, troubleshooting, and support.

2. Technical Delivery & Project Ownership

• Serve as the technical delivery owner across multiple concurrent HR technology projects.
• Lead technical execution from requirements gathering and solution design through development, integration, testing, and deployment.
• Coordinate technical deliverables, project priorities, resources, and timelines.
• Take ownership of technical decisions, delivery quality, and successful implementation.
• Occasionally serve as the overall project leader, coordinating cross-functional resources and project activities.

3. SAP Development & Integration Leadership

• Lead and oversee SAP developers, functional leads, and integration teams.
• Provide technical guidance and direction throughout development and integration activities.
• Oversee enhancements and integrations between SAP SuccessFactors, SAP HCM, payroll, and third-party applications.
• Resolve complex technical challenges involving application functionality, integrations, and system performance.
• Coordinate technical resources to ensure successful delivery and ongoing system support.

4. Team Leadership & Resource Management

• Lead and manage matrixed technical resources across multiple projects.
• Provide direction, accountability, and oversight to developers, functional specialists, and integration personnel.
• Establish priorities and coordinate work across multiple technical teams.
• Build productive relationships with technical resources, business stakeholders, and senior management.
• Demonstrate strong people leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

5. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with HR Technology leadership, business partners, SAP functional teams, and technical stakeholders.
• Communicate architectural decisions, technical risks, project status, and delivery challenges.
• Coordinate technical and functional teams to ensure business and technology alignment.
• Develop strong working relationships with individuals at various organizational levels.

 
Required Technical Skills & Experience
SAP Technical Expertise

• Strong experience in SAP technical architecture, systems analysis, solution design, and application delivery.
• SAP SuccessFactors technical experience is mandatory.
• Strong knowledge of SAP HCM and payroll applications.
• Experience with SAP HR integrations and third-party systems.
• Experience overseeing application development, integration enhancements, maintenance, and production support.
• Ability to independently evaluate technical requirements and make architectural decisions.

Technical Delivery & Leadership

• Proven experience serving as a Senior SAP Technical Lead, SAP Technical Architect, or Technical Delivery Lead.
• Demonstrated experience leading SAP developers, functional leads, and integration teams.
• Experience owning technical delivery across multiple simultaneous projects.
• Ability to coordinate and manage matrixed technical resources.
• Experience directing technical implementations and resolving complex delivery challenges.
• Ability to serve as a technical project leader when required.

People Management & Communication

• Strong experience leading and managing technical teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships across technical, functional, and business groups.
• Experience coordinating resources without direct reporting authority.
• Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accountability across multiple teams.
