About the role:
The Senior Scheduler supports project and program management by developing, maintaining, and analyzing detailed project schedules, tracking progress, and delivering data-driven insights to guide strategic decision-making. This role integrates scheduling with cost controls, risk analysis, and performance reporting while leveraging both traditional methodologies and emerging technologies (including AI-driven analytics) to improve forecasting, data quality, and process optimization.
This position has a strong emphasis on electric utilities, including generation and interconnection facilities, with experience in hydroelectric and gas generation , substation, transmission and distribution projects. The role supports the mission to power the planet sustainably and reduce carbon emissions.
The candidate
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and manage integrated master schedules for major capital projects and large-scale distribution programs (30+ work groups), including tracking permitting and regulatory milestones.
- Lead schedule development, tracking, monitoring, and reporting to ensure projects are delivered on time across multi-year programs.
- Integrate existing schedules (owners, contractors, vendors) into a comprehensive, resource-loaded master schedule.
- Incorporate contractor schedules into owner schedules and ensure alignment across all project stakeholders.
- Perform critical path analysis, identify schedule risks, and proactively recommend mitigation strategies.
- Conduct time impact analysis (TIA) and document delays with clear supporting data.
- Convert and align Excel-based schedules into Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project environments.
- Perform resource loading and forecasting, ensuring accurate staffing and execution planning.
- Support scheduling for electric utility infrastructure projects, substation, transmission, distribution, including generation (hydro, gas) and interconnection facilities.
- Perform complex research, updates, and data analysis related to scheduling and project controls.
- Prepare and present results, alternatives, and recommendations to support decision-making, cost management, and risk mitigation.
- Support regulatory and governance requirements, including data requests for audits, rate cases, and filings.
- Apply earned value management (EVM) principles, including WBS development, schedule performance tracking, and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with project teams to define objectives, milestones, deliverables, and execution strategies.
- Identify trends and assess performance against baseline schedules.
- Drive issue resolution proactively or escalate to Project Managers as needed.
- Mentor and support the development of junior scheduling and project controls professionals.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including field personnel and contractors.
- Travel to job sites as needed (generally less than once per month).
- Stay adept with technology, and industry standards. Attend industry forums and participate in developing future trainings/courses as necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Finance, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in scheduling for capital projects and/or construction.
- Strong experience in electric utilities, with emphasis on:
- Generation (hydroelectric and gas plants
- Transmission/interconnection facilities
- Proven ability to:
- Convert Excel schedules into Primavera P6 / Microsoft Project
- Develop and manage resource-loaded schedules
- Perform critical path analysis
- Integrate contractor schedules into master owner schedules
- Experience with Primavera P6 (required) and Microsoft Project.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Visio) and SAP.
- Experience in project controls, construction, or infrastructure projects (strongly preferred).
