Senior Scientist- EmulsionClient leads the digital PCR market with its QX200 droplet digital PCR platform. You will be part of an exciting multidisciplinary R&D team of engineers, chemists, and biologists revolutionizing biological research and healthcare by developing new products in client's droplet microfluidics portfolio. You will work with fluidics engineers, chemists, and molecular biologists to develop integrated chemical and fluidic systems for reactions in emulsions. This work will span from the research stage through product launch. The successful candidate will:Invent and develop new emulsion systems for droplet-based biologyCharacterize and optimize multicomponent (oil, buffer, surfactant, and thermoplastic) systemsDesign, source, and use characterization tools and methods for liquid-liquid and liquid-solid interfacesLead associates and junior scientists in development campaignsAnalyze and synthesize existing literature and new developments in emulsion technology, and apply them to client's Digital Biology Center missionsSummarize and communicate results and determine follow-on work for the teamRequired Skills:Expertise and hands-on skills in emulsion or colloid scienceDetailed understanding of interfacial phenomena and physical chemistryDeep knowledge of transport phenomena and fluid propertiesGood understanding of chemical engineering unit operationsStrong initiative and focus on resultsAbility to thrive in a multi-disciplinary team setting collaborating with senior and junior scientists and engineersFlexible and adaptive to a rapidly changing environmentCapable of developing and executing experimental protocols, and communicating findings clearly and conciselyStrong oral and written communication skillsDesired:Expertise in water-in-oil emulsionsHands-on knowledge of molecular biology buffers and reagentsSkill in generating, manipulating, and characterizing dropletsRequired Experience:PhD (or Master of Science degree with extensive experience) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or an equivalent fieldIndustrial R&D experience with emulsions or other colloidsDesired Experience:Experience with droplet technologiesExperience in life sciences industryCommercialization experience with emulsions or other colloidsExperience in separation science and technology
