    Job Description

AI agents are changing how people shop. Google Shopping, ChatGPT, and Meta Muse are all building assistants that find a product and complete the purchase. At Amazon, customers will soon be able to ask Amazon to buy anything from any store on the internet. We"re building the systems that make that off-Amazon purchase happen.

    What"s in it for you

    1. Shape the direction - influence the architecture and roadmap, then lead projects from idea through launch and operation.

    2. Tier-1 distributed system problems - every transaction involves real customer money, and needs idempotency, retry safety, fault isolation and correctness, across systems inside and outside Amazon.

    3. Grow your business judgment - ideate and experiment which features actually grow customer trust and purchase volume

    4. Cross-team scope - drive decisions with Payments, Catalog, and other partner teams.

    5. Impact you can measure - your work reaches real customers quickly and shows up in the metrics.

We"re looking for a Senior SDE who:

    • Has a sustained track record of operating at senior scope.
    • Drives complex decisions with senior leaders and partner teams.
    • Proactively identifies product and architectural opportunities.
    • Anticipates operational risks and addresses them before they become issues.

    Key job responsibilities

    What you"ll build

    • End-to-end purchase orchestration for off-Amazon orders.
    • A Cart that lets customers finish a whole shopping mission in one place, even when the products come from many different merchants.
    • Integrations with commerce and payment platforms such as Shopify, Stripe, Adyen, and Fi-serv.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead designs from an ambiguous problem to production.
    • Drive technical decisions with Payments, Catalog and other partner teams.
    • Run experiments that grow customer trust and purchase volume.
    • Set the bar for correctness and operational readiness on a Tier-1 service.
    • Mentor engineers and raise design and code-review standards.

    About the team

The Off-Amazon Selection (OAS) Ordering team makes purchases from other external stores work through Amazon. We own purchase orchestration on both paths: one where an AI agent completes the checkout, and one where the merchant supports a commerce protocol such as ACP or UCP. We also own the external integrations, offer qualification for those protocols, and the customer Cart experience.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
