Senior Software Engineer

Senior Backend Engineer | New York | $180k to $220k + equity

I’m working with a fast-growing Series B healthtech startup in New York that is making a major investment into its backend engineering team.

They’re building an AI-powered platform tackling some genuinely difficult problems across healthcare claims, data processing and automation, and they’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who wants real ownership rather than another role picking up tickets.

You’ll be designing and building production backend systems, large-scale APIs and data-intensive applications, with responsibility from architecture and data modelling through to deployment, observability and production.

The environment is primarily Python and TypeScript, but they are not looking for someone based on a particular language. If you’ve built strong backend systems in Java, Go, Ruby, C#, Python, Node or similar, they care far more about the engineering decisions you’ve made and the systems you’ve owned.

I’m particularly interested in engineers with:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience

• Strong backend and systems engineering depth

• Experience building large-scale APIs and data processing systems

• Strong relational database and data modelling experience

• AWS or similar cloud infrastructure experience

• Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD exposure

• Experience within strong tech, SaaS or high-growth startup environments

• At least one meaningful long-term tenure rather than constant short moves

• An interest in AI-assisted engineering and modern development tooling

There is also a lot of interesting work happening around GenAI, RAG and AI-assisted workflows, so experience shipping AI products is a big plus, but not essential.

Salary is $180k to $220k base + equity.

You’ll need to be able to work from their Soho office around 3 to 4 days per week, and unfortunately they cannot offer visa sponsorship.
